“‘That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly.’ Mark certain circumstances of their differing characters and conduct. The ungodly man is unconcerned about religion; he is neither zealous for his own salvation nor for that of others; and he counsels and advises those with whom he converses to adopt his plan, and not trouble themselves about praying, reading, repentance, etc., etc.; ‘there is no need for such things; live an honest life, make no fuss about religion, and you will fare well enough at last.’ Now, ‘blessed is the man who walks not in this man’s counsel,’ who does not come into his measures nor act according to his plan…”
Quoted about Psalm 1:1 in C.H.S.’s Treasury of David (Expositions of the Psalms)
Thanks for this interesting post Chris. It brought back memories of discovering the ruins of an old Methodist church in a town near where I live. When I researched it, I discovered that Adan Clarke had laid the Cornerstone in 1811. He was born in Northern Ireland where I used to live.
You’re welcome, Elizabeth, and thank you for sharing this information that I was not aware of. I don’t have his Bible commentary in book form but it is nice that it is free online. He certainly had many interesting things to say! He must have been a great scholar. Wiki says that:
“Hebrew, Syriac, Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, and other Eastern tongues, with the literature which they represented, being among the subjects of his study.”
Amen 🙏 Stay close to God’s ways and don’t follow advice that leads you away from Him.
Walking in His guidance brings true blessing, Amen …
God Bless You Chris
Thank you for your comment, Willie! There is so much guidance in God’s Word and Psalm 1 is certainly a good place to start.
Thank you for your kind words and may God bless you as well!
You are very welcome.
