Quotes #9…Keith Gordon Green 1977

I found it hard to believe, Someone like you cared for me
You put this love in my heart

I tried but could not refuse, You gave me no time to choose
You put this love in my heart

I want to know where the bad feelings go, When I’m depressed and I get down so low
And then I see you coming to me and it’s alright

I want to tell you right now, I’m not afraid to say how
You put this love in my heart

There are sometimes when I doubt, But you always find me out
You put this love in my heart

‘Cause when I see all that you’ve done for me
It’s hard to doubt, I just have to believe
‘Cause you follow up, provin’ all of your love

Well I know The loneliness I had before
Is gone now, I’ll never feel it anymore
‘Cause your love has released me
From all that’s in my past
And I know I can believe you
When you say I’ll never be forsaken
Your love is gonna last

There’s so much more I should say, If I could just find a way
You put this love in my heart

Is all this real or a dream, I feel so good I could scream
You put this love in my heart

I want to know where the bad feelings go
When I’m depressed and I get down so low
And then I see you coming to me and it’s alright
You put this love in my heart
You put this love in my heart
You put this love in my heart

From the Album For him who has ears to hear 1977

You put this love in my heart (from the album)
You put this love in my heart (live in 1977)

My husband and I were just listening and singing along to Keith Green’s “My Heart Is Hard” in the car. He didn’t charge for his music or his concerts if I’m not mistaken. He had a heart for souls for sure. Our young people need to hear his music and hear his testimony. He was so young. He was gone before we were saved. Thanks for posting!

You’re welcome, Cathy. Your good comment has made me think to post a link so that people can hear this song if they want to. I remember (like it was yesterday) hearing this song as I was driving to college. I thought it was incredible. I still have the 1977 album that included many other great songs. So good to hear that others still sing along with Keith as well. He had a contract with a record company but felt bad about making profits off of his music so he talked to the owner of the record company who let him out of his contract. I used to get his “Last Days Newsletter.” He was becoming quite the theologian as he grew in his faith. I still miss him.
Thank you again for you comment, Cathy.

  2. Many thanks for these beautiful lyrics Chris.

Thanks for posting the inspiring lyrics of this song! Keith Green published a four-part tract series exposing the Catholic church and I’m sure he caught a lot of flak from the CCM crowd. After Keith died, his widow quickly pulled the tract series from their Last Days Ministries publications list.

You’re welcome, Tom, and thanks for your comment. I remember that his Last Days Newsletter had a series on the RCC and it wasn’t favorable. It was probably the tract series that you’ve mentioned or a version of it. I’m sorry to hear that Melody Green pulled the tract series. I don’t know why she would have done that when Keith was so in favor of it. Maybe it was to “fit in” or maybe there were financial stresses at the time of the tragedy that she had to pull many things.

I remember reading quite a long time ago on the internet that Melody Green became very involved with the pro-life movement and started an organization named “Americans Against Abortion.” Keith’s tract series, “The Catholic Chronicles,” was an impediment to attracting Catholics and ecumenists to “Americans Against Abortion.”

That is interesting, Tom. I remember going to pro-life meetings organized by people in my county. Sadly, some of the time I was the only protestant. At the same time, I’m guessing that many protestants assist with pro-life efforts in their churches. It’s really a shame if Melody pulled those tracts because of an attempt to attract Catholics. I don’t think Keith would have approved of that if I remember correctly the damning information he was putting out there about the RCC.

It’s another example of political-religious culture wars undermining the genuine Gospel, a frequent topic for me lately.

It is unfortunate for sure. For me lately, I’ve been trying to keep up with the false prophets that are multiplying like rabbits within protestant and nondenominational churches.
