Thank you for the quote from Goodwin, Chris, and for the excellent video from Michael Reeves speaking of Goodwin speaking of Jesus. It was a great way to start my morning!

I prefer the old preachers than those today
They were much more indepth and not afraid to call out wickedness

It is so true in many cases, ropheka. Around the time that Mr. Goodwin lived there were a good number of men who studied the Bible like the Bereans did. It is the reason many of my quotes are from men like this. Of course, after the Reformation there were many who risked their lives, including some of the Puritans, to share their faith and they certainly were not afraid to call out wickedness. I particularly appreciate those who knew the scriptures well in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries as well and were able to preach accordingly. There are still Godly preachers out there faithfully preaching but their numbers are dwindling. I was reading this article yesterday and the numbers are downright scary:

“A new nationwide survey of America’s Christian pastors shows that a majority of pastors lack a biblical worldview. In fact, just slightly more than a third (37%) possess a biblical worldview and the majority—62%—hold a hybrid worldview known as Syncretism.”

With other polls showing the next generations with even a lower view of the scriptures, I’m afraid we can expect continued downgrade. There is always room for revival but revivals we’ve had in recent years show no improvement in Christian worldviews or Christian behavior for that matter.
Thank you for your comment, ropheka.

Yeah, I like tose preachers as well as John MacAurthur and Allister Begg but they are gone now too.

Chinese Christians were the most Christ centered I have ever met. They would but about 97 % of the so called Christians I know to shame. I loved being around them

Thank you for the comment, ropheka. I have a few posts that feature Alistair Begg and I’m sure I have some John MacArthur here as well. They were both good for the most part but like you said, Alistair has retired to work on Truth for Life and John MacArthur has gone to be with the Lord as you well know.

When I lived in San Francisco, we had a Chinese and English congregation. I really liked the Chinese pastor and so many of his members.
