Mid-East Prophecy Update – April 10th, 2016

Pastor JD Farag is always interesting. I watch him because he has unique view of things because of his Arab heritage. He is an American Pastor living in Hawaii who does a weekly prophecy update. He is the only Calvary Chapel pastor I am currently listening to. He is a pre-trib believer who has made some very interesting and unique Biblical points about this idea over the years. Although the pre-trib rapture view is “growing old” to many, I seem to be leaning more that way all of the time. I’ll never be dogmatic about it or another view until it happens or unless the scriptures become clearer to me on the subject.

Pastor Farag makes some comments about Jeremiah here that are thought-provoking. If you are wondering, He has expressed his appreciation for this country many times. I have seen him get emotional about the thought that he might still be a Muslim if his family hadn’t moved to America. The Jeremiah section begins around 19:30.

This man has a pastor’s heart.

There is so much going on that I can’t keep up with it. On the job front, I’ve enjoyed being with the kids lately. Unfortunately, I’ve had to send more than one student to the office recently because they lied to me. Hmm…wonder where they learned to look you straight in the eyes and lie to you? This week I had a mixture of jobs; everywhere from third grade to high school. Kids are still kids in spite of the spiritual meltdown happening all around them. You probably are aware of the reading materials that these kids read on their own time. This is something I can’t control. A student walked up to me and shared a “bloody” incident in a book that she was reading. I read it and said, “Gross!!!” I didn’t have time to express my concerns to her until the next day. It’s kind of rare for me to be in the same place two days in a row, but in this case I was very thankful.

I will miss Justice Scalia. His statements about allowing “same-sex” marriage were scathing. I don’t know how many times he was critical of the current Court and its unconstitutional views. I think the court will continue to become more Godless. I hope I’m wrong.

THE JUDGMENTS OF THE LORD ARE TRUE AND RIGHTEOUS

I can’t count the times I’ve been asked over the years about certain stories in the Old Testament. They are good questions and I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t have all of the answers. Many of the questions relate to God’s dealings with those whom the Israelites had to conquer, via war, when they entered into the promised land.

I’ve answered these questions in different ways. Lately, I feel that the enemies of Israel knew the power of God and, if they had repented, God would have spared them. Rahab is an excellent example. She helped God’s people, her family was saved, and she wound up in the genealogy of Jesus. The wicked who were destroyed not only knew the power of God, many of them had seen it.

The reason this topic has come to mind is a quote I stumbled upon by perhaps the greatest leader our country has ever known. He had little schooling. His church attendance was meager.

Responding to accusations that he was an “infidel”, Abraham Lincoln defended himself, without denying that specific charge, by publishing a hand-bill in which he stated:

“That I am not a member of any Christian church is true; but I have never denied the truth of the Scriptures; and I have never spoken with intentional disrespect of religion in general, or of any denomination of Christians in particular…. I do not think I could myself be brought to support a man for office whom I knew to be an open enemy of, or scoffer at, religion.”

Lincoln attended one of Peter Cartwright’s (an opponent for Congress) revival meetings. At the conclusion of the service, the fiery pulpiteer called for all who intended to go to heaven to rise. Naturally, the response was heartening. Then he called for all those who wished to go to hell to stand, unsurprisingly there were not many takers. Lincoln had responded to neither option. Cartwright closed in. “Mr. Lincoln, you have not expressed an interest in going to either heaven or hell. May I enquire as to where you do plan to go?” Lincoln replied: “I did not come here with the idea of being singled out, but since you ask, I will reply with equal candor. I intend to go to Congress.”

Mr. Lincoln grew up in a very religious family and he knew his Bible very well.

Having shared these few quotes, I come to the one that I think captures Mr. Lincoln’s thoughts on war and God:

“Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet if God wills that it continues…until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword…so still it must be said that THE JUDGMENTS OF THE LORD ARE TRUE AND RIGHTEOUS ALTOGETHER (my emphasis). With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us finish the work we are in, to bind up the nations’ wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and for his orphans, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and a lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.”

THE ASWAN DAM

“And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be desolate forty years: and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries” (Ezek. 29:6-12)

Because of the time period mentioned (40 years) in this Old Testament Prophecy, many believe that it has yet to be fulfilled.

“And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel.

“When they took hold of thee by thy hand, thou didst break, and rend all their shoulder: and when they leaned upon thee, thou brakest, and madest all their loins to be at a stand.

“Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring a sword upon thee, and cut off man and beast out of thee.

“And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD: because he hath said, The river is mine, and I have made it.

“Behold, therefore I am against thee, and against thy rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even unto the border of Ethiopia.

“No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years.

“And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be desolate forty years: and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries” (Ezek. 29:6-12)

My comment:

I think this event is a future event. Will the dam itself fulfill the prophecy? I don’t know. The Prophecy in the News article has this interesting statement:

“In 2002, Israeli Knesset member (MK) Avigdor Lieberman, admittedly a man given to controversial statements, announced that Israel could defeat an invading Egypt by bombing the Aswan High Dam. He knew that this would require the use of nuclear force, since many experts have testified that the dam is too massive to fall to ordinary explosives. Lieberman, who served as Israel’s Deputy Prime Minister, and as Minister both of Foreign Affairs and Strategic Affairs, had obviously been briefed upon military alternatives. It appears that he wanted to give Egypt something to think about.”

Mr. Lieberman is not the only one who thinks a nuclear event could cause the destruction of the Aswan Dam. Toxic wastes from such an event could certainly explain some of the details in Ezekiel’s prophecy. Has Egypt ever been desolate 40 years?

The article by Bill Salus states:

“According to the Jewish historian Josephus, Egyptians went into captivity after Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon conquered Egypt, which occurred around 568 B.C. However, it is difficult to confirm the length of the Egyptian deportation. Thus, 40-years of Egyptian deportation might still be a pending prophetic event.”

Because of the uncertainty of the timing of Nebuchadnezzar’s deportation, and the intensity of Ezekiel’s prophecy, I believe the prophecy is a future event.

When Ezekiel states:

“No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years.”

I think there is no event in history that explains an event this extreme. Already admitting that I don’t know the “how,” I also don’t know “when.” Some think it will happen soon.

No matter what Ezekiel was referring to, we know that our God will never leave us or forsake us.

THE THRONE OF DAVID

“And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.” (2 Samuel 7:16)

No other ordinary human being, not even the greatest of men, was ever given a promise like this promise to David. It can be understood, however, when one realizes that David is a type of Christ and that, in terms of His human genealogy, Christ did indeed inherit the right to David’s throne. As the angel Gabriel told Mary: “The Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever” (Luke 1:32-33). The coming Messiah is identified as this promised Son of David in the Old Testament prophecies (e.g., Isaiah 9:6-7).

Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot)

Throughout Israel this week, (September 19th – 25th) the people are celebrating Sukkot or The Feast of Tabernacles.  (Leviticus 23:33-43)  At its most basic level, Tabernacles is a celebration of the abundance of God’s blessings in connection with the ingathering of the Autumn Harvests.  It is also a memorial to the Exodus, when the Jews wandered in the wilderness, living in tabernacles or booths (temporary dwelling places) en-route to the Promised Land.  Could this remind us that we are also in a temporary dwelling?  In 2 Corinthians 4:18-5:2 we read, “Fix your eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.  Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling…”

Many Christians also celebrate this Feast and some believe that this is the correct time of Jesus’ birth when He came to “tabernacle among us [Immanuel].”  If so, He would have been conceived around Chanukah/Christmas [the light of the world?].  Chanukah of course means the festival of lights and Yeshua (Jesus) is the Light of the world. Add nine months from Chanukah and you will roughly come up to the Feast of Tabernacles. According to all natural laws, the Israeli’s should have perished in the wilderness, but were instead divinely protected by God. Tabernacles, is therefore a representation of faith in God’s protection and promises.

As the Nation of Israel continues to face a time of uncertainty, may we pray that the Lord would protect His people and tabernacle with them.
