“There brake He the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle.”
Psalm 76:3
Our Redeemer’s glorious cry of “It is finished,” was the death-knell of all the adversaries of his people, the breaking of “the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle.” Behold the hero of Golgotha using his cross as an anvil, and his woes as a hammer, dashing to shivers bundle after bundle of our sins, those poisoned “arrows of the bow;” trampling on every indictment, and destroying every accusation. What glorious blows the mighty Breaker gives with a hammer far more ponderous than the fabled weapon of Thor! How the diabolical darts fly to fragments, and the infernal bucklers are broken like potters’ vessels! Behold, he draws from its sheath of hellish workmanship the dread sword of Satanic power! He snaps it across his knee, as a man breaks the dry wood of a fagot, and casts it into the fire. Beloved, no sin of a believer can now be an arrow mortally to wound him, no condemnation can now be a sword to kill him, for the punishment of our sin was borne by Christ, a full atonement was made for all our iniquities by our blessed Substitute and Surety. This is from the 6th Century Christian hymn, “At the Lamb’s High Feast We Sing.”
At the Lamb’s high feast we sing,

I had to share it because it reminds me so much of the unmerited grace that God has had on me. There is pain, there is sadness, yet there is hope and joy.

Psalm 46.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. This is a wonderful compilation by Ingrid Schlueter at a time in our history when Christians need these powerful words from Psalm 46. What a blessing it is to know that He is our refuge and strength!

This week I was leading a group of 3rd graders back to class after an assembly. I couldn’t help but hear two 3rd grade girls discussing something behind me. It went something like this:
Girl #1: “There was this tree in a garden. God told them not to eat anything from the tree and they did it anyway.”
Girl: #2 “I know.”
Me (looking back): “You believe that story?”
Both girls: “Yes, we do.”
Me: “Well, I believe it, too.”
Girl #1: “I believe it, 100%!”
Girl #2: ” I believe it, 1000%!”
Me: “Technically, you can’t have more than 100%.”
Both girls: “We believe it 1000%.”
Me: “Well, if anything is to be believed more than 100%, it should be the Bible.”
All three of us: “We believe it 1000%!”
“Unless you become like a child…..”

Sherry has put together a great combination here. Worship God through song and then listen to the Prince of Preachers preach. (I wish it was an actual recording of Mr. Spurgeon’s voice. A good reader will have to suffice.)
If you can’t make it to church, this is the next best thing!

Was America Founded to be Secular?
July 4, 2017I applaud PragerU for articulating the truth of America’s history. The men quoted here weren’t all necessarily Christians but they knew how important religion and particularly Judeo-Christian beliefs were to the establishment and continued welfare of the nation. Their words are as true today as they were when they spoke them over two hundred years ago.
