Was America Founded to be Secular?

I applaud PragerU for articulating the truth of America’s history. The men quoted here weren’t all necessarily Christians but they knew how important religion and particularly Judeo-Christian beliefs were to our society.  Joshua Charles makes an important distinction near the end of this video.  He says:

“The founders did not demand that anyone believe in any particular God – quite the contrary. But while they understood the value of a secular government, they feared a secular society – one without religion.  So should we.”

This distinction is important.  We are at the point in this country that mandating any religious practices by our government would be a mistake.  Polling shows that Americans with a Biblical worldview make up around 9% of our society.  Trying to mix government with religion at this point is unwise as all religions are now in consideration.  I always thought that Christian prayer in the schools in 1963 was a good thing.  However, because the percentage of believing Christians has dropped dramatically since then, I am against any such prayer.  Schools would create a prayer that was universalist in nature and that’s the last thing we want our children to hear on a daily basis.

Thank you for the reblog, Pastor Barsan. There is no question that the Bible had a huge impact on those who founded this nation. Anyone who says differently is changing history. May God continue to bless your ministry my friend.

Chris, just now I watched this short video. It was excellent. Thank you! Lord bless you!
Both we and Norway have lost our moorings.

You’re welcome, Maria. Thank you for your kind words and may the Lord bless you as well!
Prager U. is not a Christian “thing” but it interesting how many videos speak well of Judeo-Christian ethics. In fact, about 20 of the videos have been censored by Youtube because they are considered too questionable. Most of those who speak on these videos are well educated in some facet of life and would be considered “conservative.” It is a sad fact that many “Christian” preachers can’t articulate morality as well as many of the Prager U. videos. We have, indeed, lost our moorings.

Here are the videos that have been blocked thus far:

Thanks, Chris! And thank you for additional important information! Today I read a newspaper article – New Boston Globe, I think – that reported on the push to remove the reference to Puritans in Harvard’s anthem. Got the link from a Facebook group devoted to the Puritans.

You’re welcome, Maria! Wow. Some just want to hide any reference to anything Christian from everything. It is scary to see the lack of understanding in much of the younger generations. The continual attempt to remove historical evidence of a once great spiritual nation is sickening. I don’t think the U.S. Constitution could be a product of our times. The percentage of Americans who have lost respect for the Word of God is now too high for anything as wise as the Constitution. It appears to be a target as well as the Bible.
Isn’t it great that in spite of all of the bad news we see every day, our God remains the same as always, merciful and mighty? We are blessed!
