Thanks for posting these two informative videos, Chris. Of course, I’ve known the name of Matthew Henry for multiple decades and referenced his commentary many times, but I appreciated learning about the man.
You’re welcome, Tom, and thanks for sharing that you watched them. Just like you I’ve known of Matthew Henry and used his commentary at times. But I knew very little about him as well. Now I have this post on my blog that I can refer to if I ever want to go back and read or watch a video about him.
Thank you Chris, for this very interesting information about Matthew Henry’s life. I watched both videos. I have his commentary and I never know that he was not able to finish it himself.
You’re welcome, Cathy, and I’m glad you had time for the videos. I didn’t know that he was not able to finish it himself either. Guys who really know Matthew Henry’s writing seem to be able to tell pretty easily where his part stopped even though the men who finished it had his notes to help them. You probably saw that part in the video.
That line feels very simple…
but it lingers longer than it first appears.
I found myself sitting with it for a moment—
not really trying to explain it,
just letting it stay as it is.
There’s a certain weight in how quietly it’s placed here.
Thank you for your comment, Livora. I’m glad the quote impacted you that way. It is a pretty simple quote but I liked it because it is true.
Thank you so much for sharing these videos about Matthew Henry, Chris. I would have used his commentary over the years but knew very little about him.
You’re welcome, Elizabeth. For years all I knew about him was that almost every denomination had few issues reading his commentary as it was so widely used. It was good for me to do this bit of research on him because there must be a good reason that his commentary, as far as I know, has gotten into more hands than any other in the past 300 years, either in paper form or via internet. Now I know why he is used so widely.
Thank you so much for your comment, Elizabeth!
I confess I have never heard of him before – thanks for the insight!
You’re welcome, Linda!
So true
It is, Pastor Jim.

( II Chronicles 7:14 KJV ) “If My people, which are called by My Name, shall Humble themselves, and Pray, and Seek My Face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and Will Forgive their sin, and Will Heal Their Land.” Pray for Israel-Yisrael and the USA ❤
Thank you for this, Kristi!
