TO ALL OF THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED…

November 10, 2013

I would like to thank Susan Carriere for posting this on my Facebook page.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED The 1930′s 40′s, 50′s, 60′s and 70′s.

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we weren’t overweight because WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo’s, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms……….WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.
And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn’t it?!

My comment:

Born in 1958, my childhood was much like the one described here by Susan.  I spent hours on my green stingray bike and we did all sorts of things similar to the ones mentioned in article above. 1962 was the year that prayer was removed from our public schools by the Supreme Court.  Growing up in California, I never heard a Christian prayer in class.  I am blessed to have had a wonderful childhood, however.  I wish I had a picture of the tree house that my Dad and I made in our backyard tree.  I added the “burglar alarm” which was quite dangerous.  One of the three ladders needed to reach the 2nd floor of the tree house was from an old pool.  It had metal rungs.  I unfastened one of the rungs, tied a string to it, and a few pulleys later a water bucket would spill onto a metal “runway” and douse whoever might still be clinging to the tree.  I usually kept my “trap” safe by keeping the bolt in the side tied to the string.  A neighbor almost feel out of the tree one day though.

MR. GRAHAM FINISHES STRONG

November 7, 2013

MAYBE HIS FINAL MESSAGE TO AMERICA

Anyone who has read my blog has seen the good and the bad posts about Mr. Graham.  I think Mr. Graham has finished strong with an uncompromising message of the Gospel.  “The cross is offensive…”  I couldn’t agree more Mr. Graham.  I say “well done.”

What do you think?

SUN PARADOX CHALLENGES OLD EARTH THEORY

November 6, 2013

by Tim Clarey, Ph.D. *

“Scientists previously uncovered fossil algae in Archean rocks—evidence of life in a period that evolutionists date from 3.0 to 3.5 billion years ago.1 At that supposed time, the sun would have been 70 percent less luminous compared to today, making Earth’s surface icy and uninhabitable.

But if those rocks are truly 3.0 to 3.5 billion years old, the meager solar energy delivered by the younger Sun at that time would have prevented algae or any other life form from growing.”

You may read the rest of the article HERE.

My comment:

In the end, as I’ve mentioned many times, my faith is based on the Word of God.  However, it is always nice to have evidence to show that fossil algae are not 3.5 billion years old and fit a young earth scenario well.

HOPE

October 8, 2013

“There are many persons to be found who are bowed down with despondency of spirit, and cannot lift up themselves to enjoy a comfortable hope.  Let such take heart from the case before us; and let them also remember that the Lord does not now forget the sorrowful and broken-hearted.  We see this expressly stated in:”

Isaiah 49

13 Shout for joy, O heavens! And rejoice, O earth!
Break forth into joyful shouting, O mountains!
For the Lord has comforted His people
And will have compassion on His afflicted.

Promise to Zion

14 But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me,
And the Lord has forgotten me.”
15 “Can a woman forget her nursing child
And have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.
16 “Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;

BRILLIANT BUTTERFLY FEATURE CHALLENGES DARWINIAN SELECTION

September 23, 2013

By Brian Thomas, M.S.

How do butterfly’s wings shine? Like almost all other butterflies, the Morpho has wings covered with scales. Typically, pigmentation patterns across these scales generate wing colors, but a Morpho‘s scales deploy an additional feature.

On top of their scales, Morpho butterflies have countless tiny, tree-like structures with suspended branched arms that manipulate light waves. Spacing among the branches helps match targeted light-wavelengths, like blue for example. Repeated reflections of the same wavelength cause interference effects that, when viewed from certain angles, generate stunning iridescence.

EVOLUTION AND GOD

September 1, 2013

There are so many reasons why we have gotten away from the truth of God’s Word.  The Evolution issue is a big one.

My son worked very hard in high school to get his college tuition minimized.  He is in his freshman year and is taking a Biology and Physiology class.  Here are a few of the chapter titles in his text:

“How Populations Evolve”

“How Biological Diversity Evolves”

“The Evolution of Microbial Life”

“The Evolution of Animals”

Chapter 14 ( a favorite number of mine) begins with “The Origin of the Species.”

Anyone who has read this blog knows where I stand on this issue.  The Bible says that “God created the heaven and the earth.”  I believe it by faith.  I also believe there is a great deal of evidence to back this belief.  Evolutionists may not always admit it but they must come to their THEORY with a great deal of faith.  This video shows several Biology students being asked very simple questions that they can’t answer.  When they do answer, they have not really dealt with the issue.

SPROUL/STEIN INTERVIEW

This is very interesting interview. The entire movie “Expelled” has been put on YouTube by a Muslim.  I had it here, but I don’t feel right about showing an entire movie without those who have worked so hard on it getting something from it.  HERE is a section of the movie that I’ve shown in another post.

Here is a link dealing with “Intelligent Design:”

There are many other posts on this blog about this issue.  To see them all, click on “creation” in the category section on the right side of this blog.  Here a few of my favorites:

GOD OF WONDERS

EVOLUTION CONTROVERSY’S OUTDATED ONE-SIDED EXPOSURE

IS THE AGE OF THE EARTH A SIDE ISSUE?

DOES A GOOD GOD EXIST?

We need to give our young people the facts and let them come to their own conclusions.  Listen to some of the students in the first video.  They sound brainwashed to me.  I think that man knows that there is a God, but rebellion closes one’s eyes to the truth.

This section of scripture From Romans 1 (Bible Gateway) describes the results of a continued turning away from the truth:

Unbelief and Its Consequences

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

MAYWAGE

August 29, 2013

I know this is a very serious subject.  But I can’t refrain from sharing this humorous part of a movie called “The Princess Bride” that deals with marriage.  “Buttercup” is being forced to marry “Prince Humperdink.”  The priest doing the ceremony is quite the character.  What he says is actually good.  It’s the way he says it that, if you are in a mood, may get a giggle out of you.  We could all use a good laugh these days.

Why a post about marriage?  Well, today is my 32nd wedding anniversary.  Have you read Proverbs 31?  It describes a Godly wife.  Somehow, 32 years ago, a 22-year-old-know-little married a young lady similar to the one described in Proverbs 31.  I have been very blessed.

There are mixed feelings.  As I checked Flickr for a good photo to accompany this post, sadly many were of homosexuals getting “married.”  The fact that almost every decent picture was copy written tells me that marriage is still important to some.  I had to take my own picture.

You don’t need me to tell you that we live in contradictory times.  We have some of the best health care the world has ever known, yet we kill the unborn.  We are supposedly evolving into something better, at the same time, all appearances make it look like we are as we have always been: sinners.  Advances in technology screeeeeeem forward.   Ethical standards lurrrrrrrrrrrrrch backward.  There is a scripture that makes me think we are nearing the second coming of our Lord.

It is:

Daniel 12:4

“But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the end of time; many will go back and forth, and knowledge will increase.”

————-

I received an email from a friend of my wife wishing us a happy anniversary.  She is one of many of my friends who thinks Jesus may return in our lifetime.  I thought He would be here long ago.  If He does, praise be to God.  If not, I’ll be content to spend the rest of my days with one of the greatest blessings of my life.

How Do Mother Butterflies Avoid the Poison?

August 24, 2013

by Brian Thomas, M.S. *

Colorful Heliconius butterflies grace the tropics with their beautiful wide wings. Their survival depends on more features than what simply resides in their physical bodies. The challenge is trying to explain the origins of the way their body parts not only mesh perfectly with each other, but also with their butterfly behavior.

Read the rest of this interesting article HERE.

My comment:

I am a sucker for butterflies.  Someday I will explain why.  I think they are an amazing creation.  How can something like a butterfly survive in such a harsh world?  Maybe it’s for God’s glory. Maybe it’s to show that gentleness is an attribute that God appreciates. After all, gentleness is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. THIS ARTICLE is another evidence of an everlasting Creator.

EIGHTH GRADE TEST FROM 1912 BAFFLES

August 13, 2013

I’ve given a few tests in my time.  I even gave a 12 page U.S. history final to my eighth grade students a few years.  One of the pages was a blank sheet of paper.  The eighth grader could not graduate until they were able to list all U.S. presidents and their political parties.  Extra credit was given for a popular nickname.  Most students got it right the first time.  We spend only 5-10 minutes a day on flashcards, covering 10 each quarter.  I’ll never forget one of the young scholars getting all of the hard ones right and missing Thomas Jefferson…twice. Ah………. I won’t mention any names but the initials were (V.E.).  Imagine getting a perfect paper with all the presidents and Mr. Jefferson being the only blank on the entire page.  I finally figured out a way for the student to remember ole T.J.

Yes THIS TEST FROM 1912 is probably a test that I would have trouble passing.  I think most of the reason for this is that even when I was in school (just a bit ago) teachers spent a good amount of time trying to keep kids under control.  It is worse today.

Glancing over the test, I knew some of the answers right away and didn’t take the time to figure others.  The spelling portion wasn’t that difficult. Who knows…maybe I could pass it.  Is it today’s students fault that the world has gotten farther away from Godly principles and, therefore, we have become a less studious society?  I would say: “no.”  The slip has happened over time.  Students today know things that students from 1912 could only wish to know.  It is a different time.  Some might question the importance of knowing some of the questions on the 1912 test.  I know a bit about today’s education and it seems like many of the tests our kids are getting are focusing on questions that will help them today’s real world.  At the same time, schools spend too much time prepping kids for tests that will be different in five years.

Education has always been a challenge.  The goal of any good teacher is to try and instill a love for learning in the student. Whether a student lived in 1850, 1912, or 2013, the goal of a good teacher hasn’t changed.

Admittedly, it is much harder to educate today.  There are so many social, political, and spiritual reasons I won’t even begin to name them.  I appreciate those who teach because they love kids, not because it pays the bills.  As school starts for another year, pray for your kids teachers.  They are going to need it.

After writing this bit, is saw this story called:

“California Gov. Brown signs transgender-student bill”

The above says: “California Gov. Brown signs transgender-student bill”

Did I mention spiritual reasons for America’s fall?  (Click on the above headline to view the crazy “effort” in California.)
