“The psalmist saith more to the point about true happiness in this short Psalm than any one of the philosophers, or all of them put together; they did but beat the bush, God hath here put the bird into our hand.”
Quoted about Psalm 1 in C.H.S.’s Treasury of David (Exposition of the Psalms). Some think Trapp may have been referring to Psalm 16.
Hey Chris. Hmm, it’s interesting that there’s debate over which Psalm Trapp was referring to. Either way, both Psalms are wonderful.
I thought so too, Tom. This would be a good quote for either of them. I wish you a blessed day in the Lord!
Thank you, Chris, and have a blessed day as well!
Thanks for this quote Chris. Very interesting about John Trapp… I was reading about him after you posted this. I love all of the Psalms and both of these are so wise and encouraging.
You’re welcome. I love the Psalms, too, as did many of the Puritans. I’m sure I’ll eventually get to more of the many interesting quotes they had about some of the Psalms.
I love Spurgeon
Me too, Pastor Jim. One of my favorites is his Treasury of David, a commentary on the Psalms.
I need to finish his treasure of the psalms
