THE KINDNESS OF GOD’S SCALPEL

April 1, 2014

I heard a very good sermon on Sunday. This is the church that helped me get more signatures on a petition to keep adopted and foster children out of homes with gay couples than any other church in my county. It is worth your time. Pastor Mark is very concerned about teaching the truths of God’s Word to his mostly aging congregation.

“Sin has to be dealt with.” You won’t hear this sentence in many “Christian” churches these days.

HERE IS THE LINK.

If you want to know more about the divine scalpel, take a listen. If clicking on the link doesn’t work the first time, try again. It took me four times before I got to the sermon. If that doesn’t work, try this:

Last I checked both of these links work but you have to click on the picture you see before the sermon will start.

Movie Noah Trades Redemption for Destruction

March 31, 2014

by Megan Toombs
Communications and Outreach Coordinator, Cornwall Alliance
January 15, 2014

Was Noah a violent, murderous environmentalist who experienced an anthropogenic apocalypse? Did God hate humans because they destroyed His earth?

Not according to the Bible.

Darren Aronofsky, director of the new movie Noah, starring Russell Crowe, clearly didn’t read his Bible very carefully—or didn’t like what he read.

The movie Noah changes a story of love and redemption into an environmentalist propaganda piece about humans destroying the earth, and a call for human extinction.

Brian Godawa, who read the original script, reports that in it the earth became a desert with no rain because of human actions like hunting animals for food and sport. Never mind that the Bible says there was no rain because a mist rose from the ground (Genesis 2:6)—i.e., humidity and water vapor in the pre-flood world made rain unnecessary.

The Noah of the Bible is “…a righteous man, blameless in his generation.” The Noah of the movie script, as Godawa reports, is a shaman who avoids other people and “maintains an animal hospital to take care of wounded animals or those who survive the evil ‘poachers,’… Noah is the Mother Teresa of animals.”

Godawa makes the movie’s message clear:
Noah has himself become a bit psychotic, like an environmentalist or animal rights activist who concludes that people do not deserve to survive because of what they’ve done to the environment and to animals. Noah deduces that God’s only reason for his family on the boat is to shepherd the animals to safety, ‘and then mankind disappears. It would be a better world.’ He concludes that there will be no more births in this family so that when they start over in the new world, they will eventually die out, leaving the animals in a humanless paradise of ecoharmony and peace. As Noah says, ‘The creatures of the earth, the world itself, shall be safe.’
Darren Aronofsky missed two key parts of the Biblical story when he decided to create this movie based on the worldview of radical environmentalists.

First, God put man over the earth to steward it. Genesis 1:26–28 states:
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
God gave man dominion, which means that, in order of importance among creatures, man comes first. Environmentalists, of course, don’t agree. Godawa pointed out that the ethic behind Noah’s belief that his family should not procreate was “The same as all environmentalist activists: The ends justify the means. ‘We must weigh those [human] lives against all creation.’” Environmentalists like Aronofsky believe that man only damages the earth, but we know better.

Humanity being made in the image of God has the ability to innovate and create. When God gave man dominion over the earth, it was because under the stewardship of man the earth is more productive.

Second, Noah the movie is a story of death and destruction rooted in evil. The Biblical story of Noah is one of both just judgment and gracious redemption.

Genesis 6:7–8 states, “So the Lord said, ‘I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.’ But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.”

God the Creator was justly angry that the people, made in His image, were evil and no longer worshipped Him. But God had grace on Noah. This doesn’t mean Noah was without sin, but it does mean he had faith. As Genesis 6:9 states, “Noah walked with God.” God, through His mercy, saved Noah and his family, and thus the human race as well as the remainder of the animals.

This is one of the many amazing stories that show God’s awesome plan. God did not use the righteousness of Noah solely to save the human race and the animals from the flood. He used it in His plan for the ultimate redemption of creation through Jesus Christ.

In Far As The Curse Is Found: The Covenant Story Of Redemption, Michael D. Williams points out that the story of Noah is another example of God’s overarching redemptive story, and His covenant with man. God in His providence saved Noah to create the line that would lead to Christ. People, fallen and sinful, did not know, or care, that they needed redemption, but God cared, and He saved Noah and ultimately the rest of His creation. He covenanted with Noah and all of the earth never to destroy it again with water.

Williams contends, “the inclusion of the animals and the very earth within the covenant emphasizes that the scope of God’s redemptive program is as wide as his creational work.” God “also reaffirms man’s covenant place within creation, in phrases intentionally reminiscent of God’s commission of Adam as a covenant representative.”

Genesis 9:1–7 states:
And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. And for your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and from man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man. “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image. And you, be fruitful and multiply, increase greatly on the earth and multiply in it.”

The command God gave to Adam He repeated to Noah. The story of Noah is not the environmentalist story of destruction, it is a story of grace—God’s grace given to a fallen creation that will ultimately lead to redemption.

My comment:

I haven’t seen the movie. As I am writing this, the top story on the national news is a warning coming from the United Nations about the threat of global warming. I know that the Bible says that “the Earth is wearing out like a garment.” I attribute this to the sin of man. I know the movie will probably make a lot of money. I won’t be seeing it until my local library has it. Until then, I would like both sides to have their say. This side isn’t seen in many places these days.

THE ASWAN DAM

January 7, 2014

“And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be desolate forty years: and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries” (Ezek. 29:6-12)

Because of the time period mentioned (40 years) in this Old Testament Prophecy, many believe that it has yet to be fulfilled.

“And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel.

“When they took hold of thee by thy hand, thou didst break, and rend all their shoulder: and when they leaned upon thee, thou brakest, and madest all their loins to be at a stand.

“Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring a sword upon thee, and cut off man and beast out of thee.

“And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD: because he hath said, The river is mine, and I have made it.

“Behold, therefore I am against thee, and against thy rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even unto the border of Ethiopia.

“No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years.

“And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be desolate forty years: and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries” (Ezek. 29:6-12)

BILL SALUS ALSO THINKS EZEKIEL 29:12 IS PROBABLY A FUTURE EVENT

THE ASWAN DAM

My comment:

I think this event is a future event. Will the dam itself fulfill the prophecy? I don’t know. The Prophecy in the News article has this interesting statement:

“In 2002, Israeli Knesset member (MK) Avigdor Lieberman, admittedly a man given to controversial statements, announced that Israel could defeat an invading Egypt by bombing the Aswan High Dam. He knew that this would require the use of nuclear force, since many experts have testified that the dam is too massive to fall to ordinary explosives. Lieberman, who served as Israel’s Deputy Prime Minister, and as Minister both of Foreign Affairs and Strategic Affairs, had obviously been briefed upon military alternatives. It appears that he wanted to give Egypt something to think about.”

Mr. Lieberman is not the only one who thinks a nuclear event could cause the destruction of the Aswan Dam. Toxic wastes from such an event could certainly explain some of the details in Ezekiel’s prophecy. Has Egypt ever been desolate 40 years?

The article by Bill Salus states:

“According to the Jewish historian Josephus, Egyptians went into captivity after Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon conquered Egypt, which occurred around 568 B.C. However, it is difficult to confirm the length of the Egyptian deportation. Thus, 40-years of Egyptian deportation might still be a pending prophetic event.”

Because of the uncertainty of the timing of Nebuchadnezzar’s deportation, and the intensity of Ezekiel’s prophecy, I believe the prophecy is a future event.

When Ezekiel states:

“No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years.”

I think there is no event in history that explains an event this extreme. Already admitting that I don’t know the “how,” I also don’t know “when.” Some think it will happen soon.

No matter what Ezekiel was referring to, we know that our God will never leave us or forsake us.

MARIJUANA AND THE BIBLE

January 4, 2014

If you haven’t heard this story, I would be surprised . My friend, Delight in Truth, has predicted that things like this will continue to increase. In Delight’s words:

“◾Marijuana and perhaps other drugs of abuse may become legal in more States (in the new year)

In Colorado, a tax of up to 25% is being charged to the (now) recreational “drug.” With only 4 states in the nation in the black, many may see marijuana as a great way to raise revenue.

I think Gary makes some good points here. You may want to skip the first minute for the upcoming conference that I will not be attending.

Delight goes on to point out:

“The Bible tells us that in the end-times morality will break down and people will become more evil.

“This accelerated course evident in the last few years will intensify in 2014.

“And it must be so because the Word of God told us so.

1But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. (2 Tim 1-5)

“12Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived (2 Tim 12)

ONE MAY SEE DELIGHT’S PREDICTIONS HERE

Part of my response to Delight was:

“In Matthew 24 Jesus said: “7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. 8 But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.”

I think, along with friends of mine, that we may very well be at the beginning of this period. The verses above should make us aware of what is ahead.

“God will not be mocked and people will reap what they have sown.”

I agree with Delight’s response to my comment:

“We now wait and see how eschatological history unfolds….”

PSALM 83 AND THE UPCOMING MIDDLE EAST WAR

I think Bill Salus MAY be onto something.

PSALM 83 AND THE UPCOMING MIDDLE EAST WAR

I have to admit that Prophecy in the News has some strange speakers at their prophecy conferences.  However, I’ve never seen Gary set a date and many of his guests contribute some thought-provoking ideas.

EVER HEARD OF THE BURNING MAN GATHERING?

September 7, 2013

I found this story at a blog that I recently became aware of.  It is called “M’Kayla’s korner” and has some very interesting articles, like this one, there.  I am putting her blog on my blogroll if you would like to check it out.

This is one very strange event:

‘Burning Man’ Draws 68,000 To America’s Largest Pagan Cult Gathering

My comment:

The New Age movement is alive and well and moving into the churches at an alarming rate.  Check out your church’s statement of faith.  Make sure that it coincides with the truth of God’s Word.  Unfortunately, solid Bible teaching is getting harder to find.  Seek and ye shall find.

DAMASCUS A RUINOUS HEAP?

September 6, 2013

What about Damascus?  Right now very interesting things are happening in Syria.  You would have to be deaf not to have at least heard a bit about it.

https://chrisreimersblog.com/2012/11/28/the-future-of-damascus/

And Just yesterday:

Isaiah 17:1

King James Version (KJV)

17 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

My thoughts:

I believe this is a prophecy that has yet to be fulfilled.  It’s like the prophecies concerning the rapture.  We look for signs but we don’t know when these prophecies will come to pass.  Either could happen tonight. Either could happen in 100 years or more.  It is very possible the prophecy that Isaiah spoke of in 17:1 could happen very soon.  What will God use to destroy Damascus?  It could be an earthquake, a nuclear event, bombing from a regional war, or even a supernatural event that is without explanation.  There are many possibilities.

I continue to watch Israel because I believe that the little nation, created by a covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, is God’s timepiece.

94-YEAR-OLD BILLY GRAHAM’S WARNING FOR AMERICA

August 5, 2013

One of the posts that appears here quite often in the top ten is THIS POST ABOUT BILLY GRAHAM.  Over two years after the “top tenner” appeared, I followed up with THIS POST.

Now, THIS ARTICLE, opens with the following sentence:

“’God’s prophet’ – famed evangelist Billy Graham – is praying America will experience another ‘great spiritual awakening.’”

I beg to differ.  I think Billy Graham was a great evangelist, but I don’t think he is a prophet.

Opinions, opinions; we all have them.  I admire Mr. Graham for trying to further the kingdom.

The article promotes a nationwide day of prayer, repentance and fasting on Sept. 11.

How can any Christian not be for that?

THE ARTICLE goes on to state:

“Graham compared America to the ancient city of Nineveh, the lone superpower of its time. When the prophet Jonah finally traveled to Nineveh and proclaimed God’s warning, the people repented and escaped judgment…”

The piece mentions a New York best-selling book entitled “The Harbinger.”   Rabbi Jonathan Cahn’s book describes several “harbingers” that relate the 911 event to the story of the Assyrians.

I studied the Assyrians when I was in college.  They could indeed be considered the world’s first “terrorists” as the book claims (if I remember correctly).  To be honest, I couldn’t finish the book and I can’t really put my finger on why.  I think it was the emphasis placed on the 911 tragedy that finally made me close the book.

There is a question that I have that maybe you can help me with.  The story of Jonah and the repentance of the inhabitants of Nineveh is well-known.  It is followed, approximately 250 years later, by another “minor” prophet named “Nahum.”  Nahum contains four major prophecies concerning the fall of the great Assyrian empire.  I did a report on this in college.  The historical facts line up perfectly with the proclamations of the little-known prophet.  Nahum, like a true prophet of God, did not err in the slightest.  His final words of judgement are:

Nahum 3:19

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

19 There is no relief for your breakdown,
Your wound is incurable.
All who hearabout you
Will clap their hands over you,
For on whom has not your evil passed continually?

My question is:

Are we closer to the Nineveh of Jonah’s day, or closer to the Nineveh of Nahum’s day?

I have a leaning, but your opinion is the one is seek.  Please comment.

THE BLACK AWAKENING

August 3, 2013

I am not trying to sell books here.  But, I think this is an interesting video.

There is no question that Satan is alive and and actively trying to turn lives into chaos.  I haven’t posted much of Gary lately because of the prophecy conference that was recently sponsored by Prophecy in the News.  Several of the lecturers there were folks that are too on the fringe for me.

This is not a topic that I wish to discuss, but I think it is necessary in the day we live in to be familiar with some “dark side” events.  The verses of Ephesians 6 are important for our time:

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

A question is raised in the video: “Are we ready for what may happen in the near future?”  This question is not raised to frighten.  It is clear in the discussion that Christians have nothing to fear.  However, I think we could all be a bit better prepared for what may happen shortly.

IS CHUCK MISSLER OR HERESCOPE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ALIEN ISSUE?

July 7, 2013

(3-26-16 Update: Many Christians are spending a lot of time on issues like the one discussed here. Do you agree with the Herescope posts or with Chuck Missler? In spite of all the concerns put forward by the Herescope article, no author’s name is given that I can find. As far as I can tell, the author is the “Discernment research group.” I think an article with so many footnotes, as is found on the Herescope site, should name the author or authors. It is properly footnoted, however, and appears well-researched.)

“As one who was very much caught up in this new wave of thought, I am in a unique position to evaluate this unusual book. I believe this book by Chuck Missler and Mark Eastman may well prove to be the most significant book of our times. It could also prove to be the most critical book you have ever read personally. The conclusions the authors carefully develop may alter your own entire world-view in ways that may significantly affect your personal destiny.”[1]
-By Sarah H. Leslie

This quote is from the same Sarah H. Leslie who helped Ken Silva write THIS POST for Appraising Ministries.  Confused already?  Well, so am I.  HERE is the “about” to Appraising Ministries.  It’s creator, Pastor Ken Silva, is very ill as I write this and needs prayer from the Christian community.  I am a reader of AM and have learned quite a bit from his blog.

So, what is the point of this blog post?  The point is that there is all kinds of speculation going on “that may significantly affect your personal destiny.”

This discussion involves important names like Mr. Missler’s. It is why I think the following Herescope articles are important.  They take a cautionary position when it comes to quoting occult sources without any kind of disclaimer.  After reading the articles, I find myself in agreement with them.

A New Cosmology for the Church-A Book Review

HERE IS THE LINK to the post on a blog called “Herescope” that discusses the disturbing facts about the book pictured to the right. It includes disturbing information like the following:

The Truth:  Many of these sources employed by Chuck Missler in Alien Encounters involve reports from people who have been openly engaged in practices such as “remote viewing”[82] or mediumistic “channeling.”[83] These are occult techniques popular in the New Age Movement that are also related to clairvoyance.[84] While it is true that the U.S. government was involved in many experiments with these occult practices, that does not make any of them credible, ethical, accurate or truthful.[85] Some of the leaders in these experiments were seeking methods of altering the human brain and changing worldviews. This especially includes those at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) such as Willis Harman, who had influence over evangelical leaders to change their eschatology.[86]

Methods of altering the human brain and changing worldviews?  (See a better pic here.)

I am sad to say there is also this quote: In a roundtable discussion about Nephilim at the Prophecy Summit 2012 with L.A. Marzulli, Rob Skiba and Douglas Hamp, Derek Gilbert acknowledges the influence of Alien Encounters:

1:44: GILBERT: “I’m like our twelve-year-old Dachshund, I’ve got the gray on the muzzle on both sides. And to my right, the author of the Nephilim Trilogy, and I must say, along with Chuck Missler’s book Alien Encounters, one of the reasons that I am sitting in this chair tonight, um, also the books Politics, Prophecy, and the Supernatural; The Cosmic Chess Match, and now the Watchers series on DVD—which you here in the audience have seen out on the table outside, please welcome L.A. Marzulli. [audience applause] [7]

The Prophecy Conference, held in Branson, Missouri, was sponsored by Prophecy in the News.  I no longer get my magazine from Prophecy in the News, but it always had interesting articles.  I agreed with some and disagreed with others.  Those who have read this blog know that I have put up podcasts from Gary Stearman, whom I think is a brilliant Bible scholar.  None of the ones I have put up involve anything promoting the occult.  I really like Gary, but some of the company he keeps is questionable. This is the most recent post of Gary discussing the character of Superman:

https://chrisreimersblog.com/2013/06/19/the-comic-book-messiah/

Many of Gary Stearman’s podcasts relate information about the current events in Israel (Here is one from 7/8/13, complete with ad banner, that is an intriguing view of the current situation in Egypt).  I am very interested in Israel, as I believe there will be some kind of conflict there soon (no brilliance needed there). And, of course, it is from Jerusalem that Jesus will reign during the Millennium.

I haven’t put anything up recently because all of the podcasts begin with an ad for the upcoming Prophecy Summit II in Colorado (That has now changed).  Many of the people mentioned in the Herescope article, which I find well researched, will be present in Colorado Springs.

A New Cosmology for the Church, Part 2

*NOTE: (3/26/16) I am reviewing this post since it has appeared in my top 10 recently more than once. The link above no longer exists. In fact, “Part 2” is missing from Herescope’s archives. However, YOU CAN FIND PARTS 3 AND 4 HERE.

Click on the “Part 2” title above and you will see just that.  It is a continuation of part 1.  It should be the July 5, 2013 post.  If not, check the archives. I think Herescope has valid questions and concerns.  Consider the following quote from the post: Under the subheading “The ‘Star People’,” Missler reports at length on a “landmark conference called the “’Star Knowledge Conference’” which was “convened by Lakota medicine man Standing Elk to share secret tribal traditions about the ‘Star People’ (Extraterrestrials) with a prestigious group of prominent UFO researchers.”[54] The footnote for this conference references “Richard Boylan’s Star Knowledge Conference Report.”[55] I could not locate a list of attendees at this conference, but the glowing report in Alien Encounters actually seems to be made in the first person. Did Missler (or his co-author Eastman) attend this Star Knowledge Conference?

You can see more about the George Catlin painting HERE. When I first googled the name of the man who published the conference reports, Richard Boylan, I found his official website[56] which “contains reports, articles, and other information on the Star Visitors, on their starcraft (UFOs), and on the advanced-Human Star Kids and Star Seed Adults so numerous now in our population.” Boylan, who says he is a “retired Clinical Hypnotherapist,” holds some elaborate conspiracy theories about “Star Nations,” and on his website he offers to teach children “Psychic Exercises.” He also posts articles such as “Effects on Human Consciousness and Spirituality of Upcoming Announcement of UFO Reality.”[57] His website had plenty to be concerned about so I kept researching him, especially since Missler covered the Star Knowledge Conference for many pages in Chapter Two.

There you have it.  You can read the Herescope posts yourself and see what you think.  Each have extensive footnotes. As I have stated in previous posts, I do believe there is something going on out there and that it is Satanic in nature (Ephesians 6).  We must be careful, however, that we make God’s Word our primary source of spiritual information.

Chris Reimers

HERE is another take on Mr. Missler.  I haven’t studied this issue enough to know if I agree with all of it, but I share concerns.
