VOICES FROM THE PAST

April 30, 2016

I am a conservative, because I believe some things are worth conserving. Like hymns that speak of faith in God, faith that carries us through this ever darker world. These hymns, passed down, remind us of God’s eternal verities–the same though heaven and earth pass away — and they lift us out of ourselves to look up at Jesus.

Our Savior doesn’t evolve, he doesn’t change with the times. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Things are getting darker around us in this world, but that only means that the light of our Savior shines brighter.

I was looking for a recording of Beautiful Savior earlier, and heard many beautiful contemporary arrangements of it. Then I heard this one, and it caused me to stop. Out of the past, 1941, these voices from St. Olaf’s rose up and turned my heart to praise. This is the signature piece the college has used for their well known Christmas programs that air on PBS. But this 1941 version has something in it that I love. For once, I can’t put it into words exactly.

The first verse is just humming the familiar old melody, then the female soloist, then the choir. These choral students who recorded this so long ago never dreamed someone would be listening in 2016, but their gifts bring a blessing all these years later, because they sing of the beauty of our Savior whose light never dims.

Ingrid Schlueter

Fair are the meadows,
Fair are the woodlands,
Robed in flowers of blooming spring;
Jesus is fairer,
Jesus is purer;
He makes our sorrowing spirit sing.

Beautiful Savior,
Lord of the nations,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor,
Praise, adoration,
Now and forevermore be Thine!

Amen, Amen.

I would like to thank Ingrid Schlueter, author of The Hope Blog and former talk radio host of 23 years for allowing me to reprint this here. I heard Ingrid many times on her show and always thought it was one of the best Christian resources on the radio.

New Zealand Protest is the first on April 16, 2016

April 20, 2016

“A group of about 30 protesters held up signs featuring the Norwegian flag with slogans criticising Norway’s child welfare agency the Barnevernet and others calling on the Norwegian government to release the four children of the Bodnarius, a Romanian-Norwegian family whose children were taken into government care for protection against alleged mistreatment in late 2015.”

I have had brief internet “discussions” with Paula Salisbury. She is mentioned in this news article from New Zealand. Hamilton, NZ, was the first of 60 cities across 20 countries to hold a protest on April 16th, 2016. THANKS FOR GETTING THINGS STARTED NEW ZEALAND!

WEEKLY WRAP-UP FOR 4-16-2016

April 17, 2016

There were 12 posts added to this blog this week. Two-thirds of the posts have to do with a corrupt system called the Barnevernet, the Norwegian version of our Child Protective Services. I hope you are interested in the subject. If so, please check out “RECENT POSTS” at the right. Also posted are two messages from pastors and one from Greg Hunter whose knowledgeable guest talked about the Middle East. Finally, there is THE COMPETITIVENESS OF MANKIND. My friend Manny called it a: “Cute (short) flick with a point.”

I was fortunate to teach in Garland County Schools and even got a day in at National Park Community College. Classes there include students from many high schools in the area. I taught the criminal justice class.

People have some great educational opportunities in the Hot Springs community.

I hope that all have a wonderful week in the Lord.

“God, Love, Light & Life: Studies in 1 John

April 11, 2016

I went to watch John Haller’s prophecy update and found myself listening to a Bible Study on 1 John instead. Mr. Haller was ill and Pastor Steve Mitchell filled the gap quite nicely.

I hope the good pastor puts up the rest of this study. I will post it here if so.

April 6, 2016

“A Norwegian judge has ruled that the baby son of the Bodnariu family should be reunited with his parents.

“Ezekiel Bodnariu was removed from their custody with his four older siblings by Norway’s controversial Barnevernet or child welfare service last November.

“The judge also ruled that Marius and Ruth Bodnariu should see the two older boys twice a week for two hours at a time.”

SEE THE REST OF THE STORY HERE.

Praise the Lord. This is wonderful news!!! – CR

A NEW PICTURE!!! Notice how much Ezekiel has grown while away from his parents (compare with the picture above).

THE JESUS MOVEMENT

March 31, 2016

The Jesus movement has been from everlasting (Ps. 90:2). Jesus was moving in the creation of the universe (John 1:3). Jesus was moving in Genesis 3:15.

More recently there was something called “The Jesus Movement.”

“The Jesus movement was a movement in Christianity beginning on the West Coast of the United States in the late 1960s and early 1970s and spreading primarily throughout North America, Europe, and Central America, before subsiding by the late 1980s. Members of the movement were called Jesus people, or Jesus freaks.”

I don’t usually rely on Wiki for my information but they do a pretty good job on THE JESUS MOVEMENT HERE.

I grew up in Southern California and graduated from high school in 1976. Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa was a bit of a drive for me but I tried to make it there weekly for awhile. I guess one could say I was in the middle of it all. I have some great memories. On the other hand. many who were involved in the “movement” are not followers of Jesus today. Churches, including the one in Costa Mesa, have since had problems.

Despite the problems within many churches today, the Jesus movement continues. Many young people are seeing the vanity of life spoken of by the teacher in Ecclesiastes, and know there has to be more to life than the American dream. As a teen, I watched many “successful” adults spend their New Year’s Eve drinking themselves senseless. “This is how they celebrate life?” I questioned. I already knew the Gospel message as I was raised by great Christian role models. Being raised by great Christian role models doesn’t make one a Christian. I decided then to spend my life seeking the truth.

I studied major religions and weird stuff. I found that there was one message that dwarfed all others. Everything else seemed strange and, as I’ve learned more, everything else seems strangely the same. The message that continues to outshine, surpass, exceed, outclass, outstrip, outdo, top, and transcend any other is the one found in the Bible.

The Jesus movement will continue forever (Ps. 79:13)

WEEKLY WRAP-UP FOR 3-26-2016

March 26, 2016
Are we in the 9th inning?
Are we in the 9th inning?

It looks like the dry spell is over. By the end of the month, I will have put up nearly as many posts in March as I did in the past two years. Of course, it didn’t hurt that I had Spring Break. It gave me some time to do some searching, studying, odd-jobs that have been waiting for me, and some writing.

Looking at the RECENT POSTS at the right you can see what I’ve put up this week.

I started with END TIME STUFF, the first time I’ve put up one of John Haller’s weekly reports. He watches the worldwide media for events relating to Bible Prophecy.

BRADLEY CLARK is an American Christian artist (musician) who is as concerned as I about the events occurring in Norway.

Deborah Ann has written another excellent poem called “BE NOT DISMAYED.” I am always blessed by her blog.

“MAKE MY LIFE A PRAYER TO YOU” is a wonderful praise song written by Keith Green’s wife Melody. I stumbled on this by accident this week and was blessed out of my socks. It reminded me of my early days as a Christian.

Greg Hunter interviewed EGON VON GREYERZ on his online show called USA Watchdog. His economic forecast fits the way I see things going.

CHILDREN TAKEN FROM THEIR PARENTS, IT HAPPENS EVERYDAY IN NORWAY is the story of a Christian family who had their 5 children taken from them without warning. If you want to know more about this, go to DELIGHT IN TRUTH’S BLOG. Worldwide demonstrations take place on Saturday, April 16 starting in most protesting cities at 10:00 A.M. I have called local authorities and have approval to gather on Central Avenue across from the National Park offices near the water fountain. I only have 3 signs made but we’ll welcome as many as want to come and join us. Please educate yourself about the issue before coming or stop by and get a brochure.

What do you think about REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT in America? Make a comment about your thoughts. I have given my opinion this week.

Lastly, GOOD FRIDAY OR PASSOVER discusses the timing of the final week of Jesus’ life. I was surprised when I read the article. If you haven’t wondered how Jesus was in the grave for three days and three nights when he died on Friday and rose on Sunday, you might find your solution HERE. It makes perfect sense to me. What do you think?

We remember one of the most important weeks in World History this week. Don’t think so? Check out how much of the Gospels are dedicated to this week alone. (The creation week was pretty important, too.)

My lips will shout for joy when I sing praises to You;
And my soul, which You have redeemed.

“MAKE MY LIFE A PRAYER TO YOU” by Melody Green

March 22, 2016

Keith Green…the name brings back many memories. This popped up on You Tube the other day. I wasn’t looking for it.

“You Put this Love in My Heart” was a song I used to listen to on my way to Jr. College. The Christian radio stations were playing it almost non-stop for a while back in 1977. His album “For him who has ears to hear” was a huge hit with young Christians.

As I remember, it was a time when Contemporary Christian Music was just starting to get commercialized. Keith was a great singer/songwriter but he was also a wonderful Christian. I received his “Last Days Newsletter” which included very solid Bible teaching.

I didn’t know his wife had written one of his songs. I got to see Keith in concert one time before his death. He was one of many Christian artists playing at Knott’s Berry Farm in Southern California where I was helping lead a youth group at the time. It was a great night. I remember seeing Barry McGuire praising God for all He had done in his life. He made it a point to tell us something like “Keith Green is here tonight.” Most of the groups playing that night were very good; few of them were able to make a career with their talents because of the times. Contemporary Christian Music of the time wasn’t as slick and packaged as it is today, but it was more pure. The music that night came from the heart and ministered to many young Christians who worshiped innocently.

This is a great worship song. Listen to the words as Keith sings.

Amen, Keith, Amen.

It is no surprise that Keith’s wife, Melody, has kept Last Days Ministries going. HERE IS THE WEBSITE.
