WEEKLY WRAP-UP FOR 3-5-2016

Where do I start this week? There is so much.

First I want to share what I think is a good thing. I have experienced over the past two decades or so the 5 stages of Loss and Grief. This is usually associated with a “response to an individual’s own terminal illness, the loss of a close relationship, or to the death of a valued being, human or animal.” The five stages are Denial and Isolation, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. I didn’t really understand what I was experiencing until recently. Now that I can look back, it is clear. In my case my loss and grief didn’t come from my “own terminal illness, the loss of a close relationship, or to the death of a valued being, human or animal.”

It came from the understanding that the world around me was changing. And it was changing in horrible ways. In my lifetime, Christian prayer has been removed from the public schools. Our kids are being fed propaganda, like the evolutionary theory, which is confusing vast numbers of young (and old) people when it comes to the reliability of the Bible. Abortion has been legalized. Marriage has now been redefined.

There is a specific event that took me to the 5th level of “acceptance.” I have written about it on this blog and it’s not important for anyone to know except that it happened in 2008.

Here is the world’s definition of the 5th level of loss and grief:

“Reaching this stage of mourning is a gift not afforded to everyone. Death may be sudden and unexpected or we may never see beyond our anger or denial. It is not necessarily a mark of bravery to resist the inevitable and to deny ourselves the opportunity to make our peace. This phase is marked by withdrawal and calm. This is not a period of happiness and must be distinguished from depression.”

I am thankful that God has allowed me to see beyond my anger and denial. The difference between the world’s view of these 5 stages and a Christian worldview is perhaps most different at the 5th level. How can I be withdrawn and calm when I see the ungodly things happening around me? I must be active and calm. It is the reality of Romans 8:28 and Ephesians 6.

There is so much going on in the world that I will focus on two (of the thousands of) items that scream the SIGNS OF THE TIMES.

It is no surprise to me that youngsters lie to me almost everyday in my current position as a substitute teacher. I will always confront those whom I know are lying. God is in control. This is how I stay sane. This truth allows me not to accept the evil on goings but to accept that God’s hand will never forsake believers in spite of the way things appear.

WEEKLY WRAP-UP FOR 2-27-2016

If you want to know more about this situation, click on Delight in Truth’s blog in my blogroll. At the moment, his focus is on this problem and you can learn much about it there. It is nice to see the church coming together to fight injustice.

I’ll share two things that I read this week. I hope this helps you in our upside-down world that is not the Christian’s home:

There is so much going on that I can’t keep up with it. On the job front, I’ve enjoyed being with the kids lately. Unfortunately, I’ve had to send more than one student to the office recently because they lied to me. Hmm…wonder where they learned to look you straight in the eyes and lie to you? This week I had a mixture of jobs; everywhere from third grade to high school. Kids are still kids in spite of the spiritual meltdown happening all around them. You probably are aware of the reading materials that these kids read on their own time. This is something I can’t control. A student walked up to me and shared a “bloody” incident in a book that she was reading. I read it and said, “Gross!!!” I didn’t have time to express my concerns to her until the next day. It’s kind of rare for me to be in the same place two days in a row, but in this case I was very thankful.

I will miss Justice Scalia. His statements about allowing “same-sex” marriage were scathing. I don’t know how many times he was critical of the current Court and its unconstitutional views. I think the court will continue to become more Godless. I hope I’m wrong.

DEMONS IN TODAY’S WORLD

A few years back, I was working in a ministry where I saw many types of people. I was a teacher whom many talked to as a counselor. More than once I was told personal stories and asked my opinion about them.

I recall one story of a well-off lady who lived in a nice area of town. She asked me about strange events that were occurring at her home. The events were frequent and unexplained. She was convinced it was a dead relative that was coming to visit her. She even told me his name. She didn’t seem afraid. It was taken for granted that this dead person was visiting from time to time. She asked me what I thought.

Knowing my Bible well enough, there were only a few explanations. It was either a lot of windy days, she had a good imagination, or a spirit of some kind had moved in to some degree. She dismissed the first two possibilities. Even if she hadn’t, I would have erred on the side of caution. I told her she needed to find a pastor who would go and pray with her in every room in her house. I told her I knew it was not a dead relative.

I’ll never forget her reaction. It was only old uncle Ted and she didn’t feel the need from prayer.

This interview comes from an interesting place, a man who is a scholar in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The LCMS rarely if ever discusses this subject, yet here it is. Although I disagree with the LCMS on infant baptism and a few other things (I was a teacher in the LCMS school system), many LCMS pastors are still standing up for Biblical principles although others are falling woefully short. It is no different in every protestant denomination. I do not have either of the books mentioned in the first video above so I cannot give an endorsement.

I think, as this country continues its drift from Biblical shores, we will see more of the type of activity discussed in this video. Churches seem ill equipped to deal with such things and many would rather ignore the issue.

We have no need to fear. The name of Jesus has tremendous power. Prayer in His name can conquer all of our foes.

May god give us the wisdom to know to speak His name if or when the occasion arises.

2015 AND SIGNS THAT JESUS IS ON HIS WAY

I spent some of my time in 2015 looking at scripture and comparing it to the various views of how Jesus will return. I must admit that I am not much nearer to taking a strong position then I was before my study. I’ve come to the conclusion that if the “how” was very important the Bible would be more clear on the subject. At the same time, my look at the “Pre-wrath” view caused me to lean a bit more towards the “Pre-Trib” outlook on the “Rapture.”

Regardless of my views, God has the how and when of His return right on schedule.

So…what happened in 2015 that might make us think that His return is not that far away? In 2015, I added two more prophecy updates to the ones I already listen to. Each week I listened to JD Farag’s and John Haller’s prophecy updates. You can find them on YouTube. I do think it was a significant year when it comes to Biblical prophecy because of the speed and nature of certain events happening in our world. Needless to say (but it hasn’t stopped me before), things are becoming more like the description the Bible gives of the last days. I don’t know how many times I felt like reading Matthew 24 this year.

In 2015 I listened to many different financial analysts regarding the shape of the world’s economy. I believe there will eventually be a one world government (mark of the beast). That will not happen unless there is a radical change in the way money is tracked and spent. Just Google “cashless society.” This is only one of many areas where new technologies may have made certain Bible prophecies possible. Avi Lipkin has said that America’s god is now mammon; I think he’s correct and that’s it’s been that way for quite awhile.

In 2015 I saw the most important (and sad) event continue to worsen. The lack of simple solid Bible teaching has created more false prophets and false apostles spewing their venom to those who want to hear what they have to say. Many pulpits are silent when it comes to societal events that have changed things, things as important as the definition of marriage.

Back in the early 1970’s, Hal Lindsey’s Late Great Planet Earth reminded us to “be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.” For many who were unfamiliar with Bible prophecy, Hal’s book became an introduction of its importance.

Another book that influenced me regarding the subject of prophecy was Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell. The church I was brought up in never touched the subject of Bible prophecy and I was fascinated with Josh’s book.

Over the years, I lost track of Hal Lindsey. I knew he had a show on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. I had heard that he experienced family problems but never learned the specifics. I always knew there was some kind of problem with TBN and after it became obvious that many of its main supporters and spokesmen were Word of Faith believers and teachers, the only program I would watch there was Carl Baugh’s.

I have since learned that Hal Lindsey’s program was halted on TBN because there was some controversy over his support of Israel and his unfavorable statements about Islam.

If I were Hal I would have said goodbye and never gone back. But then, I could never allow anything of mine to be connected to TBN.

For some reason, Hal went back to TBN where he pays for his airtime.

I watched him on YouTube a few times this year and found his take interesting. In fact, I found his summary of the prophetic implications of 2015 to be the best I’ve seen. I almost put up a link to his program, but his association with TBN bothers me too much.

On the blogging front, I still check in on my favorite blogs every so often. I will miss “Appraising Ministries” and “The Sola Sisters.”

May God bless us and give each of us wisdom in 2016.

GETTING SERIOUS

I am in a current personal study about the Pre-Wrath view of the rapture. This is one of the videos I’ve come across in my search for the truth. No matter what your view may be about the day in which we live and how God’s “end of days” timetable will pan out, I think you may agree that we are living in a time of lawlessness. In my lifetime, and where I live, this lawlessness is unprecedented.

I encourage you to stay close the truths of God’s Word. The chains of manmade religion need to be discarded, and God’s Word needs to be understood. My favorite Bible verse for most of my life has been, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness…” I’ll admit my sinfulness as this has not always been my priority. This personal fault doesn’t negate the truth of the promise God has given us. If we seek the truth, we will find it.

As a substitute school teacher, I can relate to this man’s substituting experience. It’s obvious, however, that I have been in better schools than he.

I have watched Charles Cooper’s teaching series and have been impressed with this man’s ability to articulate his position and his knowledge of the scriptures. His question at the end, “Are you ready?” is, I believe, as important today as ever.
