NEARLY HALF OF AMERICAN FAMILIES LIVE ON THE EDGE OF FINANCIAL RUIN

February 5, 2013

I have asked repeatedly on this blog: “How can God bless a nation that has turned its back on Him?”  Here’s another article indicating that I am not too far off.

“More than one-quarter of households earning $55,465-$90,000 annually have less  than three months of savings.”

How is this possible?  My household doesn’t get close to the smaller figure and we don’t get food stamps, we don’t take free school lunches, and we don’t try to squeeze money out of our government.

Yet it seems we are in better shape than those noted above.

The title of this post doesn’t surprise me.  We are a very materialistic society.  We buy things we can’t afford.  Many are in debt up to their eye sockets.

We have forgotten God.  We have left His Word sitting on the shelf.

How is it possible for Him to have favor on us?

ABRAHAM LINCOLN AND CHARLES DARWIN

February 2, 2013

“Applying the lessons of Genesis, including its teaching that all humans are created equal in God’s sight, would have spared America two agonizing tragedies: race-based slavery and the human slaughter of its civil war.”

This is a quote from a very interesting article written by James J. S. Johnson, J.D., Th.D. in a recent Institute for Creation Research publication HERE.

I have read the article three times and I am going to read it a fourth.  I think the author offers a very interesting thesis.  Read the article and let me know what you think.

OUT OF TUNE

January 25, 2013

By Donald Grey Barnhouse

Several  years ago, musicians noted that errand boys in a certain part of London all whistled out of tune as they went about their work.  It was talked about and someone suggested that it was because the bells of Westminster were slightly out of tune.  Something had gone wrong with the chimes and they were discordant.  The boys did not know there was anything wrong with the peals, and quite unconsciously they had copied them.

So you will tend to copy the people you are most with; you will borrow your thoughts from the books you read and the programs you listen to, almost without knowing it.  God has given us His Word, never out of tune, to set the standard for our song.  Here is the absolute pitch of life and living.  If we learn to sing by it, we shall easily detect the false in all of the music of the world.[1]

25 Signs American Women Are Being Destroyed By The Sexual Revolution And Our Promiscuous Culture

January 23, 2013

By Michael T. Snyder

(Article originally posted to The American Dream and reprinted here in January, 2013)

Has the sexual revolution been good for American women? Not at all. In fact, when you look at the facts it becomes clear that the sexual revolution has been an absolute disaster for American women. In the United States today, men have been trained to primarily view women as sex objects, and our culture has become exceedingly promiscuous. As a result, the United States leads the world in teen pregnancy, there are 19 million new STD infections every single year, more than half of all children born to women under the age of 30 are being born out of wedlock and we are witnessing the systematic breakdown of the family unit in America. And yet anyone that tries to teach our young women that they should dress modestly and keep themselves pure for marriage is severely criticized. Well, if all Americans actually did keep themselves pure until marriage, we wouldn’t have nearly the problems with STDs, teen pregnancy and abortion that we do today. The consequences of teaching our young women that they should be “free” to run around and sleep with a whole bunch of different men have been dramatic. The following are 25 signs that American women are being destroyed by the sexual revolution and our promiscuous culture…

#1 There are 19 million new STD infections in the United States every single year. Approximately half of them happen to young people in the 15 to 24-year-old age bracket.

#2 It costs the U.S. health care system approximately $17,000,000,000 every single year to treat sexually transmitted diseases.

#3 There were more than 1.4 million cases of chlamydia reported in the United States in 2011. An astounding 33 percent of those cases involved Americans that were younger than 20 years of age.

#4 It is estimated that about one out of every six Americans between the ages of 14 and 49 have genital herpes.

#5 24,000 American women become infertile each year due to undiagnosed STDs.

#6 In the United States today, approximately 47 percent of all high school students have had sex.

#7 Sadly, one out of every four teen girls in the U.S. has at least one sexually transmitted disease.

#8 According to one survey, 24 percent of all U.S. teens that have STDs say that they still have unprotected sex.

#9 Amazingly, one out of every five teen girls in the U.S. actually wants to be a teenage mother.

#10 If you can believe it, the United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate on the entire planet. In fact, the United States has a teen pregnancy rate that is more than twice as high as Canada, more than three times as high as France and more than seven times as high as Japan.

#11 When men don’t have to wait until they get married to have sex, then they are likely to delay marriage or never get married at all. According to the Pew Research Center, only 51 percent of all Americans that are at least 18 years old are currently married. Back in 1960, 72 percent of all U.S. adults were married.

#12 Today, an all-time low 44.2 percent of all Americans between the ages of 25 and 34 are married.

#13 In the United States today, more than half of all couples “move in together” before they get married.

#14 The divorce rate for couples that live together first is significantly higher than for those that do not.

#15 America has the highest divorce rate on the globe by a wide margin.

#16 For women under the age of 30 living in the United States today, more than half of all babies are being born out of wedlock.

#17 At this point, more than one out of every four children in the United States is being raised by a single parent.

#18 Approximately 42 percent of all single mothers in the United States are on food stamps.

#19 The sexual revolution has caused women to be primarily looked at as sex objects. In this kind of environment, it should be no surprise that there has been an absolute explosion of pornography in recent years. An astounding 30 percent of all Internet traffic now goes to pornography websites, and the U.S. produces more pornography than any other nation has in the history of the world.

#20 One survey discovered that 25 percent of all employees that have Internet access in America visit sex websites while they are at work.

#21 Overall, more than 50 million babies have been killed in America since Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973.

#22 When you total up all forms of abortion, including those caused by the abortion drug RU 486, the grand total comes to more than a million abortions performed in the United States every single year.

#23 The number of American babies killed by abortion each year is roughly equal to the number of U.S. military deaths that have occurred in all of the wars that the United States has ever been involved in combined.

#24 It has been reported that a staggering 41 percent of all New York City pregnancies end in abortion.

#25 One study found that 86 percent of all abortions are done for the sake of convenience.

So what can be done about any of this?

Unfortunately, turning our culture around would not be an easy thing. Loose sexuality is glorified on television, in the movies, on our radios and in our magazines. Just about everywhere you turn there are very powerful sexual images. The following is an excerpt from a recent article by Devvy Kidd…

America’s culture has come a long way since the 60s. For decades it has resembled a filthy sewer and shows no signs of returning to decency. Children are being sexualized with markets targeting little girls as young as kindergarten age. Cable television (which includes ABC, CBS, NBC) has become nothing more than a purveyor of soft porn. Sexual imagery is everywhere. The filth used to be confined to porn channels like HBO, Cinemax and others which I have never had in my home. Now, it’s the ‘big three’ (ABC, CBS, NBC) and all the other networks that consistently pump sin and sex into households every night of the week.

Meanwhile, we have raised an entire generation of young males that don’t know how to be men. Our culture has taught them to be extremely hesitant to be husbands and fathers, and instead it has taught them to be sex-obsessed idiots that want to “score” with as many women as possible.

As long as our culture pushes these values, we will continue to suffer the kinds of consequences listed above.

So what do all of you think about these things?

Do you believe that there is any hope for America?

——————————————–

I am privileged to be able to share some of this information, along with the photo above, with some young ladies in a few days.  I will also share with them that God’s way (No sexual relations before marriage) is the best way.

We have turned a beautiful thing into something degrading.  As the article states: “The consequences…have been dramatic.”

How bad do things have to get before we turn back to God’s precepts?

I wish I had the answer to that question.

VERY GRIMM

January 21, 2013

I reblogged a post by Sue Acuna two posts down and it reminded me of an article that I sent to the local newspaper over five years ago.  The article appeared in the “In My Opinion” section.  I haven’t watched much of the current junk on T.V. but I can only imagine that things have gotten worse.

Christians never lose hope because they know the end of the story.  Actually, the end is only the beginning of forever.  Even though we see society in spiritual decay, our hope is not in the things of this world.  Thank heavens.  Here is the story I shared with the city of Hot Springs, Arkansas half a decade ago:

CR

Dear Editor,

(For “In My Opinion?”)

Kidnapping, murder, the vicious beating of a nice elderly woman followed by visuals of her as she’s wheeled into a hospital with pieces of flesh eaten off, a comatose youngster angry at the world and channeling evil actions through others upon others as her doctor father reads Grimm’s Fairy Tales to her in her unconscious state…I guess that’s what I get for having a bladder infection and curiosity.

You see, I was sick and couldn’t make the final Cutter Morning Star High School football game of the season. (Hold your heads high boys, you never stopped trying.) I had to stay home alone as the kids went off to be a part of Mr. Terry’s excellent band.  My wife would be in the stands without me.

There was a time that I never thought I’d ever go to another high school football game, as at 15 ½, I had an after-school job.  I did attend one game as a high school freshman. I remember watching Scott Hertenstein walk off the field after the game.  Hertenstein had no neck in the days when everybody else did.  He was the only good player we had.  His defensive prowess kept the other teams’ scores down.  It was tough to watch him, the gladiator in the arena, walk off the field that night after another close loss.

Over thirty years later I am catching up.  I have been pleasantly surprised at the sportsmanship and behavior of the Garland County teams I have seen this season.  There has been no: chest-banging, finger pointing, double upside down flip-flop in-your-face end-zone football spinning celebrations, beastly coaches stalking the sidelines like panthers ready to rip into any mistake-prone kid playing his heart out, etc.   Major college teams and the pros could learn a few things from our local games.

Home alone…on an unusual Thursday evening of football.  What to do?  So much to do!  I pick out a great looking article from my Prophesy in the News magazine.  I flip a tape in the VCR to tape “Survivor” for a family fan and view the first few minutes. (Catch the first and last 10 minutes and you miss nothing.  Miss it all and you miss nothing.)  The T.V. goes off.  Silence…a beautiful sound.  I read an article or two.  The hour passes.  I turn off the VCR, click on the T.V. and check C-Span.  Nothing interesting.  My basic cable T.V. Guide displays many of the programs I never watch because of the young, developing minds living with me.  I decide to get a look at what America’s watching at 8:00 on a usual Thursday night.

At this point you might skim the first sentence above.  In it, I describe parts of an episode I saw.  Who knows what I missed as, if you’ve ever had a bladder infection, you know where I spent some of the hour.  Unfortunately, I didn’t miss the final scene of the show where one of the evil influences, a pretty female, is shot between the eyes and dies (I think) after a number of convulsions and electro-static reactions.  The appallingly graphic nature of these “special effects” would have R rated this show not that long ago.

During commercials, I changed the channel and watched five minutes of a major network’s top-rated show.  Most of the scene depicted a body lying on an examining table and two new millennia detectives trying to figure out how this and that had happened to it.  Add up the victim viewing time of the entire “Columbo” series and you might equal the cadaver time in this single episode.

What else is there to say?  Are large portions of the American public so depraved that the shows I’ve mentioned are “entertainment?”  The answer, sadly, is obvious.  I hope that all adults who swallow this poison aren’t subjecting their children to it.

Although I used to like football, even coached some, I haven’t really followed it much the last decade.  After Thursday night’s experience, I look forward to next year’s high school football season where somehow the National Anthem is still the National Anthem, the crowd is decent, and the bands, no matter how small, are always appreciated.

I’ll check in with the nightmare that a large portion of America’s “entertainment” has become in a couple of years.  Will it be any worse?  Maybe I can take some antibiotics and make it all go away.

BELGIAN TWINS EUTHANIZED OUT OF FEAR OF BLINDNESS

January 15, 2013

Before I share most of the article by Mr. Schadenberg, printed in The National Right to Life News Today (I edited out some suggested reading that had no links),  there are a few things about this story that you should know.

Here are a few quotes from this USA Today article:

1. “Distraught about going blind, 45-year-old deaf twin brothers from Belgium chose to be euthanized because they couldn’t bear not to see one another, according to reports from Flanders.”

2. “Calling legal euthanasia a ‘slippery slope,’ Catholic Online declares, ‘It is only a matter of time before we report the story of the first child euthanized in Belgium,’ which is predominantly Catholic.”

3. “Besides Belgium, voluntary euthanasia — generally called assisted suicide in the USA — is legal in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Oregon, Washington, and Montana.”

You should also know that the twins had to go to court and fight for the “right” to end their lives.

You should also know that Belgium’s Socialist Party leader, Thierry Giet, supports expanding euthanization laws to include those under  18 and Alzheimer’s sufferers.

My comment:

Life is getting cheaper every day.  Man is playing God in so many ways.  I think this idea of choosing to die when you want will only become more widespread.  No one likes pain, but how does a person know that God can’t use them for His glory after going through a difficult illness?  Helping others in difficult times is a rewarding and valuable experience for all involved.

I agree with Catholic Online.  I think legal euthanasia is a very ‘slippery slope.’

CR

Here is the article that appeared in The National Right to Life News Today:

By Alex Schadenberg,

Executive Director Euthanasia Prevention Coalition

To preface my blog article about the recent articles concerning the practice of euthanasia in Belgium, one needs to acknowledge that the Quebec government is considering legalizing Belgian style euthanasia through the back-door.

The Daily Mail newspaper in the UK published an article today that that was written by James Rush and Damien Gayle and titled: Deaf twins who discovered that they were going blind are euthanized in Belgium hospital.

“On December 14, 2012, identical twin brothers who were born deaf died by euthanasia at the Belgium University Hospital in Jette, even though they were not sick, they were not yet blind, and they had lived a productive life together. They died by lethal injection.”

The article states:

“Euthanasia is legal under Belgian law if those making the decision can make their wishes clear and are suffering unbearable pain, according to a doctor’s judgment. …

“But this case was unusual as neither twin was suffering extreme physical pain or was terminally ill.

“The two brothers, who have not been named but were pictured on Belgian television, both worked as cobblers and shared a flat together, The Telegraph has reported.”

The article in the Daily Mail also reported that the 45 year old twins died by euthanasia only days before the ruling socialist government announced plans to expand the Belgian euthanasia law to include children with disabilities and people with dementia or Alzheimer’s. The article stated:

Just days after the twins were killed Belgium’s ruling Socialists tabled a legal amendment which would allow the euthanasia of children and Alzheimer’s sufferers. …

It is clear, that what is occurring in Belgium is the logical extension to legalizing euthanasia. If it is acceptable to kill one group of people in society by euthanasia then it will soon become acceptable to kill other groups of people in society by euthanasia.

These men were not suffering, they were not sick but they were deemed to be “better off dead.”

The Daily Mail article concludes by stating that in 2011 there were 1133 reported cases of euthanasia in Belgium.

It is important to note that in Belgium studies indicate that up to 47% of all euthanasia deaths go unreported.

Editor’s note. This appeared on Alex’s fine blog.

WHY AMERICA IS BROKEN

January 11, 2013

(3/15/16 Yet another video taken down. I’ll keep the story up in spite of this because there is certain info here.)

I rarely watch Judge Judy, but I couldn’t help but notice this clip when someone posted it to Facebook.  America is broken spiritually, morally, and financially.  I believe our moral and financial problems come from our spiritual problems.

I do not think it is a good thing that the judge calls the young man a moron.  His words speak for themselves.  Is it the young man’s fault that he has received so much “free money?”

Is it any wonder that our nation is in so much debt?

Let me try to put our national debt in perspective.  The media has focused on the financial problems in Greece and other European nations like France, Spain, and Portugal.  The January 2013 issue of the AFA (American Family Association) Journal includes some interesting information.

The per person debt in Spain is now $27,000.

The per person debt in Greece is now almost $40,000.

The per person debt in the United States is $53,000.

When America chose to take the God of the Bible out of the public sector, it was asking for these problems.  It doesn’t take a genius to see that our national debt will never be repaid.

We are teaching our kids, in every public school across the nation, that humankind randomly created itself.  We are teaching our children a false religion.  One has to have faith to believe in evolution.

I’m “rambling.”

Judge Judy is correct when she says: ”That’s what we’re creating…a him.”

This week, I talked to a young couple who are living together.  I always explain to unmarrieds that because I care about them I have to tell them that God would want them married.  I got a good answer in this case.  The young woman said that they planned to get married soon in spite of the fact that they would lose a large amount of the money she was receiving from the government.

In the U.S. it is generally financially beneficial to live in disobedience to God’s intentions.  How can we call this a Christian nation?

America is broken because it is living in sin.  It’s not only the marriage problem.  The post before this one is another reason.  There are so many reasons, but I think the main one is that we have forgotten this commandment:

“Thou shalt have no other God’s before me.”

The majority of us are our own gods.  We decide what is right or wrong.

I think this is the main reason we are a broken nation.

DAVID VS. GOLIATH AGAIN

January 7, 2013

Gary gets us up to date on the latest in the Middle East.  He sees “Goliath” as a coming world system.  He may be right.

Israel is surrounded by so many who hate them that, if there was a massive attack on the tiny nation,  one would think they would be overwhelmed.  It is a David vs. Goliath scenario.  And the outcome will be the same.

David didn’t lose and neither will Israel.

NEITHER SHOULD HE EAT

January 5, 2013

“…this we commanded you that if any would not work, neither should he eat.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:10

Here is an item that a Facebook friend shared with me.  It was written by the former governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee:

“Last month, the Senate Budget Committee reports that in fiscal year 2011, between food stamps, housing support, child care, Medicaid and other benefits, the average US household below the poverty line received $168 a day in government support. What’s the problem with that much support?  Well, the median household income in America is just over $50,000, which averages out to $137.13 a day. To put it another way, being on welfare now pays the equivalent of $30 an hour for a 40-hour week, while the average job pays $25 an hour. And the person who works also has to pay taxes, which drops his pay to $21 an hour. It’s no wonder that welfare is now the biggest part of the budget, more than Social Security or defense. And why would anyone want to get off welfare when working pays $9 an hour it another way, being on welfare now pays the equivalent of $30 per hour for a 40 hour work week, while the average job pays $25 dollars an hour.  And the person who works also has to pay taxes, which drops his pay to $21 per hour.  It’s no wonder that welfare is now the biggest part of the budget, more than social security or defense.  And why would anyone want to get off of welfare when working pays $9 an hour.”

Let me “say” that anyone who is truly disabled in America should be helped.  In an ideal world, it is the Church that should be assisting those who can’t assist themselves.  “Government” should deal with other issues.

Well, we don’t live in an ideal world and the “Church” is becoming more like the one in Germany prior to WWII.

Why was it that a young Dietrich Bonhoeffer could see so clearly what his elders couldn’t?

Here is an example of how Hitler charmed those he planned to dominate.  It is from an email that I received recently from Joseph Burba.

It is about a young, 10-year-old girl named Kitty Werthmann who lived in Austria during Hitler’s madness.  As you can see, Kitty made this statement recently.

December 22, 2012 –

“What I am about to tell you is something you’ve probably never heard or read in history books,” she likes to tell audiences.

“I am a witness to history.

“I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history.

“If you remember the plot of the Sound of Music, the Von Trapp family escaped over the Alps rather than submit to the Nazis. Kitty wasn’t so lucky. Her family chose to stay in her native Austria. She was 10 years old, but bright and aware. And she was watching.

“We elected him by a landslide – 98 percent of the vote,” she recalls.

She wasn’t old enough to vote in 1938 – approaching her 11th birthday. But she remembers.

“Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.”

 Not so.

“In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression. Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed. We had 25 percent inflation and 25 percent bank loan interest rates.

“Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily. Young people were going from house to house begging for food. Not that they didn’t want to work; there simply weren’t any jobs.

“My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need. Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people – about 30 daily.

“We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany, where Hitler had been in power since 1933.” she recalls. “We had been told that they didn’t have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living.

 (Austrian girls welcome Hitler)

“Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group – Jewish or otherwise. We were led to believe that everyone in Germany was happy. We wanted the same way of life in Austria. We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family. Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted, and farmers would get their farms back.

“Ninety-eight percent of the population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.

“We were overjoyed,” remembers Kitty, “and for three days we danced in the streets and had candlelight parades. The new government opened up big field kitchens and everyone was fed.

 (Austrians saluting)

“After the election, German officials were appointed, and like a miracle, we suddenly had law and order. Three or four weeks later, everyone was employed. The government made sure that a lot of work was created through the Public Work Service.

“Hitler decided we should have equal rights for women. Before this, it was a custom that married Austrian women did not work outside the home. An able-bodied husband would be looked down on if he couldn’t support his family. Many women in the teaching profession were elated that they could retain the jobs they previously had been required to give up for marriage.

“Then we lost religious education for kids.

“Our education was nationalized. I attended a very good public school. The population was predominantly Catholic, so we had religion in our schools. The day we elected Hitler (March 13, 1938), I walked into my schoolroom to find the crucifix replaced by Hitler’s picture hanging next to a Nazi flag. Our teacher, a very devout woman, stood up and told the class we wouldn’t pray or have religion anymore. Instead, we sang ‘Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles,’ and had physical education.

“Sunday became National Youth Day with compulsory attendance. Parents were not pleased about the sudden change in curriculum. They were told that if they did not send us, they would receive a stiff letter of warning the first time. The second time they would be fined the equivalent of $300, and the third time they would be subject to jail.”

 (And then things got worse)

“The first two hours consisted of political indoctrination. The rest of the day we had sports. As time went along, we loved it. Oh, we had so much fun and got our sports equipment free.

“We would go home and gleefully tell our parents about the wonderful time we had.

“My mother was very unhappy,” remembers Kitty. “When the next term started, she took me out of public school and put me in a convent. I told her she couldn’t do that and she told me that someday when I grew up, I would be grateful. There was a very good curriculum, but hardly any fun – no sports, and no political indoctrination.

“I hated it at first but felt I could tolerate it. Every once in a while, on holidays, I went home. I would go back to my old friends and ask what was going on and what they were doing.

“Their loose lifestyle was very alarming to me. They lived without religion. By that time, unwed mothers were glorified for having a baby for Hitler.

“It seemed strange to me that our society changed so suddenly. As time went along, I realized what a great deed my mother did so that I wasn’t exposed to that kind of humanistic philosophy.

“In 1939, the war started and a food bank was established. All food was rationed and could only be purchased using food stamps. At the same time, a full-employment law was passed which meant if you didn’t work, you didn’t get a ration card, and if you didn’t have a card, you starved to death.

“Women who stayed home to raise their families didn’t have any marketable skills and often had to take jobs more suited for men.

“Soon after this, the draft was implemented.

“It was compulsory for young people, male and female, to give one year to the labor corps,” remembers Kitty. During the day, the girls worked on the farms, and at night they returned to their barracks for military training just like the boys.

“They were trained to be anti-aircraft gunners and participated in the signal corps.  After the labor corps, they were not discharged but were used in the front lines.

“When I go back to Austria to visit my family and friends, most of these women are emotional cripples because they just were not equipped to handle the horrors of combat.

“Three months before I turned 18, I was severely injured in an air raid attack. I nearly had a leg amputated, so I was spared having to go into the labor corps and into military service.

“When the mothers had to go out into the work force, the government immediately established child care centers.

“You could take your children ages four weeks old to school age and leave them there around-the-clock, seven days a week, under the total care of the government.

“The state raised a whole generation of children. There were no motherly women to take care of the children, just people highly trained in child psychology. By this time, no one talked about equal rights. We knew we had been had.

“Before Hitler, we had very good medical care. Many American doctors trained at the University of Vienna.

“After Hitler, health care was socialized, free for everyone. Doctors were salaried by the government. The problem was, since it was free, the people were going to the doctors for everything.

“When the good doctor arrived at his office at 8 a.m., 40 people were already waiting and, at the same time, the hospitals were full.

“If you needed elective surgery, you had to wait a year or two for your turn. There was no money for research as it was poured into socialized medicine. Research at the medical schools literally stopped, so the best doctors left Austria and immigrated to other countries.

“As for healthcare, our tax rates went up to 80 percent of our income. Newlyweds immediately received a $1,000 loan from the government to establish a household. We had big programs for families.

“All day care and education were free. High schools were taken over by the government and college tuition was subsidized. Everyone was entitled to free handouts, such as food stamps, clothing, and housing.

“We had another agency designed to monitor business. My brother-in-law owned a restaurant that had square tables.

“Government officials told him he had to replace them with round tables because people might bump themselves on the corners. Then they said he had to have additional bathroom facilities. It was just a small dairy business with a snack bar.

“He couldn’t meet all the demands.

“Soon, he went out of business. If the government owned the large businesses and not many small ones existed, it could be in control.

 “We had consumer protection, too…

“We were told how to shop and what to buy. Free enterprise was essentially abolished. We had a planning agency specially designed for farmers. The agents would go to the farms, count the live-stock, and then tell the farmers what to produce, and how to produce it.

“In 1944, I was a student teacher in a small village in the Alps. The villagers were surrounded by mountain passes which, in the winter, were closed off with snow, causing people to be isolated.

“So people intermarried and offspring were sometimes retarded. When I arrived, I was told there were 15 mentally retarded adults, but they were all useful and did good manual work.

“I knew one, named Vincent, very well. He was a janitor of the school. One day I looked out the window and saw Vincent and others getting into a van.

“I asked my superior where they were going. She said to an institution where the State Health Department would teach them a trade, and to read and write. The families were required to sign papers with a little clause that they could not visit for 6 months.

“They were told visits would interfere with the program and might cause homesickness.

“As time passed, letters started to dribble back saying these people died a natural, merciful death. The villagers were not fooled. We suspected what was happening. Those people left in excellent physical health and all died within 6 months. We called this euthanasia.

“Next came gun registration. People were getting injured by guns. Hitler said that the real way to catch criminals (we still had a few) was by matching serial numbers on guns. Most citizens were law abiding and dutifully marched to the police station to register their firearms. Not long afterwards, the police said that it was best for everyone to turn in their guns. The authorities already knew who had them, so it was futile not to comply voluntarily.

“No more freedom of speech. Anyone who said something against the government was taken away. We knew many people who were arrested, not only Jews, but also priests and ministers who spoke up.

“Totalitarianism didn’t come quickly; it took 5 years from 1938 until 1943, to realize full dictatorship in Austria. Had it happened overnight, my countrymen would have fought to the last breath. Instead, we had creeping gradualism. Now, our only weapons were broom handles. The whole idea sounds almost unbelievable that the state, little by little eroded our freedom.”

 “This is my eye-witness account.

“It’s true. Those of us who sailed past the Statue of Liberty came to a country of unbelievable freedom and opportunity.

“America is truly is the greatest country in the world. Don’t let freedom slip away.

“After America, there is no place to go.”

 Kitty Werthmann

The recent statements of Mike Huckabee and Kitty Werthmann help me to see what is happening in America in 2013.  As I read the book “Bonhoeffer,” I was surprised that many highly educated Christians had no idea what was coming to Germany when they made Hitler their leader.  Obviously, it was the same in Austria.

One could argue that things are worse in America today than they were in Germany before Hitler.  The people in Germany and Austria were good workers.  Most kids in Germany and Austria were living with their Dad and their Mom.

Can the same be said of Americans today?

It is true that Americans may still take or send their Children to Church on Sunday.  It has not become a National Youth Day with compulsory attendance.  But it is also true that Americans are relying on the government more than ever.

How many American kids get a free breakfast and a free lunch at school while their parents drive around in high-priced vehicles?  This has been going on for years.  Kitty called it “creeping gradualism.”

We are becoming used to our government’s principles and have gotten away from God’s principles.

I start 2013 with the question I have asked continually on this blog:

“How can God bless a nation that has turned its back on Him?”
