WORDS FOR TODAY – MAY 3, 2016

A Father’s Instruction

1 Hear, O sons, the instruction of a father,
And give attention that you may [a]gain understanding,
2 For I give you [b]sound teaching;
Do not abandon my [c]instruction.
3 When I was a son to my father,
Tender and the only son in the sight of my mother,
4 Then he taught me and said to me,
“Let your heart hold fast my words;
Keep my commandments and live;
5 Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding!
Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
6 “Do not forsake her, and she will guard you;
Love her, and she will watch over you.
7 “The [d]beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom;
And with all your acquiring, get understanding.
8 “Prize her, and she will exalt you;
She will honor you if you embrace her.
9 “She will place on your head a garland of grace;
She will present you with a crown of beauty.”
10 Hear, my son, and accept my sayings
And the years of your life will be many.
11 I have directed you in the way of wisdom;
I have led you in upright paths.
12 When you walk, your steps will not be impeded;
And if you run, you will not stumble.
13 Take hold of instruction; do not let go.
Guard her, for she is your life.
14 Do not enter the path of the wicked
And do not proceed in the way of evil men.
15 Avoid it, do not pass by it;
Turn away from it and pass on.
16 For they cannot sleep unless they do evil;
And [e]they are robbed of sleep unless they make someone stumble.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness
And drink the wine of violence.
18 But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
That shines brighter and brighter until the full day.
19 The way of the wicked is like darkness;
They do not know over what they [f]stumble.
20 My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
21 Do not let them depart from your sight;
Keep them in the midst of your heart.
22 For they are life to those who find them
And health to all [g]their body.
23 Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life.
24 Put away from you a deceitful mouth
And put devious [h]speech far from you.
25 Let your eyes look directly ahead
And let your [i]gaze be fixed straight in front of you.
26 Watch the path of your feet
And all your ways will be established.
27 Do not turn to the right nor to the left;
Turn your foot from evil.

Waiting For the Word’s commentary:

GOD the FATHER
Throughout Jesus’ ministry he talked about doing the will of the Father. He said that he was going to the Father and he wanted us to be there as well. Jesus said that he and the Father are one: “If you have known Me then you have also known the Father.” The four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John include many references to the Father and Jesus’ relationship with his Father as well as their desire for us to be part of God’s family in heaven.

Obedience to the Father was the one desire of the Lord Jesus Christ. And if this was His primary goal and purpose, then obedience is most certainly a necessary and essential part of our relationship with God as well.

This scripture from proverbs 4 needs to be read today. There are many reasons why. I bet you can think of 5 good reasons in less than a minute.

SILENT TEARS by Hildi Doelitzsch

May 2, 2016

Hildi has a great amount of compassion. She is a Christian who is involved in the effort to help those who are persecuted in Norway. She has been a solid voice for the innocent from the Christian perspective. I appreciate all she has done.

Why I’m Dumping Christianity Today Magazine

May 2, 2016

If you are supporting Christianity Today Magazine in any way, it is time to stop. Dan makes it clear.

Dan C.'s avatarThe Battle Cry

Through the years I’ve been an on again, off again reader of Christianity Today, often referred to these days as Christianity ‘Astray’. A few years ago I tried another subscription that gave me hard copy and online versions because id seemed like a good deal and after all, there was an occasional article that still contained sound doctrine. When my last renewal came around I opted for just the online version from which it was easier to extract information and save it in digital format for future reference. This week I received my May edition and if I could get a partial refund of the remaining issues due me I would – trust me. Here is a sampling of what CT had to offer:

1. Beyond Bono and Eugene Peterson: The Most Searched and Shared Psalms

Thanks to some earlier advertising I knew this one was coming. Fuller Theological Seminary…

VOICES FROM THE PAST

I spent most of my week in two area schools. I enjoyed my week as I worked with K-11th grades.

The joke of the week has two answers, one that came from my source and a better one that came from a student.

Why was the math book sad?

Source: Because it had so many problems.

I hope you all have a blessed week in the Lord.

VOICES FROM THE PAST

April 30, 2016

I am a conservative, because I believe some things are worth conserving. Like hymns that speak of faith in God, faith that carries us through this ever darker world. These hymns, passed down, remind us of God’s eternal verities–the same though heaven and earth pass away — and they lift us out of ourselves to look up at Jesus.

Our Savior doesn’t evolve, he doesn’t change with the times. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Things are getting darker around us in this world, but that only means that the light of our Savior shines brighter.

I was looking for a recording of Beautiful Savior earlier, and heard many beautiful contemporary arrangements of it. Then I heard this one, and it caused me to stop. Out of the past, 1941, these voices from St. Olaf’s rose up and turned my heart to praise. This is the signature piece the college has used for their well known Christmas programs that air on PBS. But this 1941 version has something in it that I love. For once, I can’t put it into words exactly.

The first verse is just humming the familiar old melody, then the female soloist, then the choir. These choral students who recorded this so long ago never dreamed someone would be listening in 2016, but their gifts bring a blessing all these years later, because they sing of the beauty of our Savior whose light never dims.

Ingrid Schlueter

Fair are the meadows,
Fair are the woodlands,
Robed in flowers of blooming spring;
Jesus is fairer,
Jesus is purer;
He makes our sorrowing spirit sing.

Beautiful Savior,
Lord of the nations,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor,
Praise, adoration,
Now and forevermore be Thine!

Amen, Amen.

I would like to thank Ingrid Schlueter, author of The Hope Blog and former talk radio host of 23 years for allowing me to reprint this here. I heard Ingrid many times on her show and always thought it was one of the best Christian resources on the radio.

Video Link: New Director’s Cut of Excellent Christian Documentary: “The Real Roots of the Emergent Church”

April 29, 2016

Sherryn posted this awhile back but Elliott Nesch’s excellent documentary is one that every Christian should see. I am relying on “The Narrowing Path” more and more for my discernment information.

The Narrowing Path's avatarThe Narrowing Path

Here is another critically important documentary I urge you to watch and share with others. The film maker, brother Elliott Nesch of Holy Bible Prophecy generously offers this film to watch, download and distributed free of charge. With over an hour of additional material, this well-researched film is an invaluable resource for Christians.

The Real Roots Of The Emergent Church

From the original documentary description:

Because diversity characterizes the Emergent Church movement, it is difficult to paint everyone in the movement with a broad brush. Some have observed that defining the Emergent Church is like nailing jello to a wall. All participants agree on their disillusionment with the institutional church, but do not all agree on where the church is destined to go from here. They share a common concern with many evangelicals over the state of the modern church, especially the mega-church phenomenon and “seeker-friendly” churches. For this reason, many…

Desperate Parent Leaves Norway

April 29, 2016

Here is another excellent post on Delight in Truth’s blog. I think I would do the same thing this man has if I lived in Norway and had school aged children. I would leave any of the Nordic countries. CR

Delight in Truth's avatarDelight in Truth

DESPERATE PARENT – He had his children investigated by ‪#‎Barnevernet‬. For the sake of their safety he IMMEDIATELY took them back to Romania before Barnevernet could confiscate them.

When faced with the trouble they caused, a Barnevernet official spoke to nrk.no and said this was a “routine” interview by a nurse and that the Dugeniuc family had nothing to fear. Nevertheless, Andras Dugeniuc fled Norway to ensure his children will not be targeted. This video is available on the nrk.no site below, a Norwegian newspaper.

Translation of Andras Dugeniuc:

“[I did this] because of the interrogation that one of the younger children (age 9) was put through at school. After the interrogation, the kids panicked and knowing about the Bodnariu case from the internet they asked me: what will happen to us? The same as with the Bodnariu family? So, they panicked and said, dad, we will not…

HOW SOCIALISM ENDS

April 28, 2016

It wasn’t that long ago that Venezuela was one of my favorite countries in South America. Why, you ask? I think it was because I did a report on Venezuela in elementary school and my research showed that it was a wonderful place. So…my “wasn’t that long ago” would be awhile back for young people.

There are many who live in America who think that socialism is our answer. This is evidence that socialism isn’t the answer.

What do you think?

Meltdown!

April 26, 2016

On the front page of the local newspaper today WAS THIS STORY. It was printed online in the Washington Post yesterday. The article is by Andrew Roth.

The article begins with this sentence:

“Engineers at Chernobyl, Ukraine, are close to installing a new state-of-the-art protective shelter over the remains of reactor no. 4, the site of the worst nuclear power plant accident in history.”

Excuse me???

Does anyone know what’s going on in Japan as this is being written? The core at Chernobyl was contained. No one knows how to contain the 3 cores that completely melted down at Fukushima. Here is an interview from from almost three years ago.

The mainstream media is giving us information about Chernobyl. Why are we not hearing about the ongoing problem in Japan?

Could it be that someone is trying to play down the ongoing problems at Fukushima? Could it be that someone wants to dispel fears of the reality of Fukushima? I don’t know, but I find the coverage of Chernobyl very strange particularly when the greatest nuclear disaster happened only 5 years ago as opposed to 30 years ago.

Amber-Encased Lizards Showcase Recent Creation

April 24, 2016

By Brian Thomas, M.S.

What did lizards look like when they crawled around dinosaur feet? Newly described lizards encased in Burmese ambers clearly show the answer.

Publishing online in Science Advances, a team of zoologists recognized familiar lizard forms in a dozen amber-encased specimens.1 A few preserve almost whole lizard bodies, most merely contain body parts, but they all confirm biblical creation in several different ways.

Amber forms when resins—not sap—flow from damaged trees. The resin hardens within hours, like scabs, to help heal the tree’s wounds. The resins sometimes flow fast enough to occasionally entomb little creatures, and harden fast enough to preserve them before they’re eaten or have time to rot.

Secular scientists assigned an age of 99 million years to these Burmese amber deposits. But the encased organisms show no evidence for evolution between creature kinds. Instead, the dozen lizards fall neatly into five modern lizard categories. For example, the researchers found life-like modern geckos and even identified a tiny chameleon fossil.

READ THE REST OF THIS EXCELLENT ARTICLE HERE.

It seems to me that there is a good amount of evidence that the Biblical view of Creation is logically correct. I believe the Bible account is the correct account.
