A Miracle in the Norwegian CPS?

June 7, 2021

Was it a miracle? We’ll never know this side of heaven but more than one person said that it was.

The Child Welfare Services of Norway (the Barnevernet) is notorious for taking children from their parents for very little reason whatsoever. The world became aware of the problem when one case created worldwide protests in April of 2016. The pressure put on the Norwegian “Child Protective Services” by worldwide protests had a positive effect and the family involved was eventually reunited. It was a happy ending for one family who moved out of the country to avoid further abuse. What about all of the other families who have had their children stolen from them in Norway?

The Wings of the Wind attempted to find out why other similar cases in Norway had completely different results. The vast majority of people who had their children taken under very questionable circumstances never got their children back. One American/Norwegian mother who had her child stolen by the Barneveret eight years ago is still wondering if she might see her child before he is 18, or ever. Because of the obvious abuse of power, the Wings of the Wind commented on blogs, posted items, and grew to know many of the good people of Norway who were very upset about the shameful corruption.

The purpose of this post is to show a real example of how children are taken from parents in Norway. So many have bravely tried to expose this evil, like the victims in the following story. In spite of unknown (and known) risks, they told the truth and attempted to help others.

During the worldwide protests of 2016, this blog was in contact with a Norwegian good Samaritan who had welcomed a young mother into her home to help her care for her young child.

The Wings of the Wind was given this true story as it happened in real time and spoke by phone directly to the mother of the child as events were unfolding in Norway. At the time the following exclusive post was printed on this blog, the mother was safely living with the family that had taken her in. The family included a Norwegian pediatric nurse who worked at a neonatal intensive care unit. The article below was first printed here exactly five years ago today.

THE RISE AND FALL (?) OF THE NORWEGIAN CPS

Written by Margaret Hennum
(Originally written under the pseudonym Elsa Christensen)

Part 1

It is Ascension Day, Thursday the fifth of May, 2016. A mother walks through the gates of Vilde “Home for Mothers,” never to return. She takes her son with her, a boy of about five months. The next days will be the first days that the mother and the baby get to be together without any public surveillance in a governmental institution, surveillance by the CPS.

Mother and child had survived five months away from home, observed day and night in an institution with video surveillance. Their performance of day-to-day tasks had been continuously monitored. In addition, daily notation of facial expressions, mood, and development were recorded. And then there was the IQ testing.

Why was this mother’s freedom to be in a normal social setting taken from her? When she was thirteen years old she was at school with her twelve-year-old sister. The authorities came in with the CPS and forcefully separated the two sisters who tried desperately to hold on to one another. The police also took their three other siblings.

“I was fine when I lived at home,” the mother remembers.

From that day, the five siblings never lived together, nor did they get to live with their parents as youngsters. The siblings were spread out, and the girl of thirteen was forced to live in a CPS institution. The other children in the institution were experimenting with several kinds of drugs. The loss of everything that was familiar to her made her seek consolation in the drugs she was offered. Her addiction followed her the next thirteen years. Then she got pregnant.

The day after giving birth to a son on December 1, 2015, it was explained to the mother that the CPS could help. She was told this because the goal was to remove her child from her. This fact was hidden from the mother.

Proposal of Help #1: Two CPS employees came to see her the day after she gave birth. They told her that the child was going to be moved to a foster home.

Proposal of Help#2: On the same day, the CPS promised the mother that they would not take the child if she agreed to admit herself for observation at the Sudmanske “Home for Mothers” in Bergen, Norway.

The mother accepted the “help;” she had no choice if she wanted to keep her boy. Most people would call this coercion. The CPS called it “voluntary acceptance of help.” After approximately a week in the hospital, the mother and child were moved to Sudmanske.

Proposal of Help #3: About two weeks later, two days before Christmas at midnight, the institution staff met with the mother. Instead of the expected discussion of her progress, she was informed that her son would be taken from her as a part of the third proposal of help. Up to this point, she had been breast feeding the boy.

The mother felt powerless after losing her living child, and she did not know where the CPS had taken him. She knew that the boy was taken from the person he belonged to and was a part of.

Proposal of Help #4: About five weeks after the baby was born, the mother was offered another proposal of help. The little boy would be returned to her immediately if she voluntary admitted herself for observation in the Vilde “Home for Mothers” in Horton, Norway. The coercive “offer” was accepted, the baby boy was returned, and the move was made to Vilde. The Norwegian CPS once again called it a “voluntary acceptance of a proposal for help.”

The Vilde “Mothers’ Home” is approximately 500 kilometers from the mother’s home in Bergen.

After four months of continuous observation at Vilde, the mother ended the fourth help proposal on her own initiative on the fifth of May. (The rest of Margaret’s article is printed at the end of this post.)

After the brave young mother (Nadia) left the “Mother’s Home” on her own, she was given refuge in the home of pediatric nurse Margaret Hennum. She and her son, Caspian, enjoyed six weeks living with the Hennum family.

What happened over the next several months was a nightmare. On June 16th, 2016, just nine days after the article above was posted on this blog, Norwegian authorities came to the Hennum home and took Caspian into custody. The following updates appeared here as the mother shared them with the Wings of the Wind.

NADIA AND CASPIAN…UPDATE #18

Some have called Nadia and Caspian’s story a miracle.

Because the outcome of Nadia’s case is pretty rare in Norway, it has been called a miracle by some. I continued to ask Nadia for updates in the years following the return of Caspian. Understandably, as the good mom she is, Nadia did not want to give any details that could put her freedom in jeopardy. Recently, Nadia told the Wings of the Wind that she is now very open about her new life in Poland. The Wings has been following her Facebook page for years and has watched young Caspian grow.

Have there been any improvements in the Norwegian Childcare Services since 2016?

In the last year or so Norway’s Child Welfare Services (Barneveret) has been found guilty of Human Rights abuses at the European Court of Human Rights on several occasions. The ECHR can condemn a country for Human Rights violations but it has no regulatory authority. It appears that nothing concrete has been done to change the abysmal system although good sources say that more Norwegians are aware of the problem and that there are a few good media articles here and there. At the same time, the ungodliness continues. A few of the recent ECHR decisions can be found here.

Among others, there is the more recent story of an American mother who has had her three children taken from her. The Wings of the Wind published posts about Natalya Shutakova’s family here and here.

My opinion is that there has been no real change in Norway. A foundation of true information has been laid and is out there for any who want to know the truth. All one has to do is read one of the ECHR’s reports to know that Human Rights for families is not a priority for a country that is viewed by many as one of the greatest in the world. And the cases at the ECHR are not even the tip of the iceberg. I keep in touch with my Norwegian friends to varying degrees. Some continue to work for change. From where I stand it appears that the Barnevernet propaganda machine throws so much at Norwegian society that even the sanest of voices get drowned out.

Please continue to pray for Norway. So many prayed for Nadia and Caspian. As the years have passed, I have become more aware of similar problems in the West including the USA. Florida has a parent’s rights bill pending. As far as I’m aware all that it needs is the governor’s signature. My guess is that he will sign it. If he does, I am already writing a post to applaud it.

Here is the second part of Margaret’s article which contains a glimpse into the world of Norwegian “Child Welfare.”

THE RISE AND FALL (?) OF THE NORWEGIAN CPS

Written by Margaret Hennum
(Originally written under the pseudonym Elsa Christensen)

Part 2

For many decades, up until the 1970’s, children of wanderers such as gypsies, were taken by force from their parents. The CPS was assisted by the police to give these children what the government said they needed: a childhood without parents and siblings. They would be housed in institutions. Between 25% to 33% of gypsy children born between 1900 and 1960 were treated this way. Girls were IQ tested and sterilized. This was also done to some boys. In addition, whole families were interned in labor colonies. There, among other things, they were taught a “regular life characterized by tough discipline.” This was said to be “voluntary,” but clear threats to take away their children gave parents no choice but to except this existence.

“This is our near history. The last labor colony was closed in 1989. The last sterilizing was done in 1964. Later on, the government had to pay compensation for the abuse, and asked for forgiveness for destroying lives.” (Nina E. Tveter)

Does the mindset behind these actions live on?

Twenty-four years after the last forced sterilization in Molde, Norway, and about the same time as they closed Svanviken labor colony in Nordmøre, the social worker Kari Killén wrote a Doctoral Thesis. It was this work that made it possible for CPS to become as it is today.

After a study of only 17 children, Killen shaped the future CPS, a CPS based on measures of the parents’ functions. Killén told the social workers to evaluate “which parents can help children to survive!” (Molde, Norway, 19.02.2009)

The social workers in Norway and Scandinavia took her grand mission very seriously, and the results of their evaluations are catastrophic. The CPS and the police are now forcing 4-5 children each day out of their homes, most of them never to return to their parents. Last year this “protection” of Norwegian children cost the government 20 billion NOK.

The Middle Class Emotional Neglect

Killén, a social worker, is responsible for an important part of the curriculum for people studying to become social workers, and she has been teaching these courses for years. According to Kari Killén, 45% of Norwegian children suffer from emotional neglect. Her thinking is the foundation for the Norwegian CPS today: that 45% of our children will be traumatized by their own parents because of dubious bonding. When this happens, the CPS needs to “assist” people. Killén’s conclusion is based on this assertion: 45% of our children have parents that cannot help them survive without damage!

Killén argues that the percentage is so high because of a new type of neglect that she calls: “The emotional neglect in the middle class.” This is something that only some of the highly educated can understand: some health nurses, doctors and others may discover it from the time of the pregnancy.

Killen says that “Middle Class Emotional Neglect” is hard to discover, and the damage does not show until the child is three to five years old. It becomes particularly obvious in the teen years.

A National Breakdown?

If there is any truth to Killén’s assumption, it would be a sign of a total breakdown of the Norwegian welfare state. Of course, this idea makes no sense and the result of the work that the CPS has done based upon it must be seen as one of the greatest tragedies of our time.

A Forced Stay in a “Home for Mothers”

It wasn’t that long ago that gypsies had the choice between moving to a labor colony, or losing their children and getting sterilized. Today, hundreds of women yearly get the choice between moving to “Homes for Mothers” for observation, or losing their children at once. Just like the gypsies before them, these “choices” are called “voluntary.” We find this enforced in the CPS statistics under the term “help.”

In our culture, women with newborns have traditionally been well cared for. They get help in the house, food served in bed, helpful advice on breast feeding, and care from women that are friends. In the institutions, the women are merely being observed! They are taken away and isolated from their friends and family, people with whom it is natural to share the joy over the baby.

Many women in these institutions tell stories of how they initially got a warm welcome so it was natural to open up and talk about themselves. Then the illegal video surveillance started and there were demands for detailed plans of their daily tasks. The requirement: their plans had to be noted every half hour. Any supervision and guidance came mostly in the form of negative criticism. Monitoring of the voice, facial expressions, hygiene, and lack of initiative were recorded. Finally, the lack of eye contact with the child and other signs of supposed lack of interaction were seriously considered. The things the mothers told about themselves in confidence at the beginning of their stay was written in an “end report” that was unrecognizable to the mothers themselves.

“End reports” on the different mothers are strangely similar. Many mothers are in despair, often there with their first child. They have “let themselves” be institutionalized by force in a desperate hope of getting to keep their baby or of not losing it again. Most of them do not return home with their children.

The mother mentioned earlier in this narrative (we now know that this was Nadia…cr) survived five months under observations just like these. Every time a child was taken, she remembered when her own baby was taken from her at three weeks of age. She cried every time a child disappeared. In her “end report,” her crying was interpreted this way: “the mother is unstable!” She had lost once and was afraid to lose again.

“End reports” from “Home for Mothers”

The “end reports” from “Home for Mothers” are the most depressing literature I have read during my study of the CPS. The heartless lack of concern that make their methods possible are reflected in written observations. A family therapist will deliver these “end reports” to be used by the Council Committee and judges, who need proof for decisions. The “end reports” have a huge impact on the lives of children, parents and whole families.

As noted earlier, the reports are strangely similar. Most things are interpreted in the worst possible way. They are full of symbols, meaning no direct accusations, that describe irrelevant circumstances; circumstances that, if they were relevant, would discredit the parent and strengthen the therapist’s allegations. Just as enlightening as the things in the report are the things that are withheld on purpose.

In the report above of the woman who moved out voluntarily, breast feeding was mentioned as something she wanted to do, but it was not mentioned as something that she actually did. The fact that she was breast feeding the child until the CPS placed the boy with strangers is deliberately withheld! They did not mention that when the mother got her boy back in her arms after two weeks, her breasts were still not completely dry. They withheld the fact that the mother asked the public health nurse and the doctor in “The Mothers Home” if they thought that she could get the milk production back up, so she could continue breast feeding. They told her she couldn’t! Others knew that she could have managed it easily with some help and in a safe environment. A family therapist described the lack of eye contact between mother and child. She didn’t mention that the CPS kept them from developing the natural eye contact that breast feeding gives, and didn’t mention that they had the mother believing that she could never have this “free” eye contact again with the boy. (A baby’s eye sight is sharpest in the distance from the breast to the mothers face.) Another important fact that was held back was that the mother and child that they observed had just been reunited! The baby came from a two week stay in an emotional no-man’s-land (two weeks, in a lifetime of five weeks). The mother was scared and felt that she was in a dangerous situation after having lost her baby, having it back, and then being threatened of losing it again. The family therapist did not mention that the observations were made in the light of this dramatic break in the relationship between the mother and the baby.

Killén teaches that the people who do not have the necessary caring skills, will probably never learn them. This explains why the “Home for Mothers” is the exact opposite of what is normal in the rest of society. The “Home” does not give help when needed. They do nothing to strengthen and support people who are managing the best they can. These “Homes” merely observe and call it “help.” In reality, they are “helping” the child be torn from where it belongs.

The CPS in the Future

We know a lot about some groups of people in the government who would like to control family activity. Recently, a member of the parliament and social committee suggested that the CPS should start to prepare when the woman is pregnant. The CPS seems to listen to this member.

How many groups of people should be deemed unworthy of the parenting role? The gypsies were told clearly in their time to stop giving birth or be sterilized. Many people who have been involved with the CPS say that sterilization would almost have been better because then we would know for sure that there would be no “Child Welfare Services” in Norway’s future.

Time may be short before claims for compensation will come from the survivors who have had their lives ruined by the CPS. It appears that it will be a tough battle. Until then, the CPS will use money from the 20 billion NOK they have at their disposal for a very peculiar purpose: forcing CPS employees into the homes of families to restore the good impression of the CPS! The ones that are coerced to accept “help” become traumatized families in numerous cases. Some may get their children back only after long battles with the CPS. As stated earlier, in many cases, parents never get their children back.

Nadia and Caspian’s Fight for Freedom – PART 2

September 4, 2017

It seemed to be the perfect happy ending for Nadia and her sweet little son Caspian. Caspian was taken by Norway’s Child Welfare System, barnevernet, in June of 2016. With the help of a good lawyer, international pressure, prayer and social media activities, Nadia won her case in September and Caspian came straight home.

They both stayed at Margaret and Dag Hennum’s home for a while, a lovely Christian couple, where they started to recover from the horrible trauma that Norway’s Child Welfare System had just caused in their lives. Even though the case was closed and Caspian was returned to his loving mother, barnevernet never apologised for their mistake.

In February 2017 Nadia moved to Ulsteinvik, looking forward to starting a new life. With her own new apartment and with a place for Caspian in a Kindergarten she was looking forward to finally leaving that dark chapter behind. Also, she was happy to establish new relationships with new people in the neighborhood who didn’t know anything about her past struggles with barnevernet. Everything seemed perfect, but things were about to change.

Margaret Hennum commented:

“It all started recently with a phone call that was listened to legally, and barnevernet was contacted about this. I’ve read this report and it states that Nadia said during the phone call that she had a headache.“

Two women from barnevernet with two policemen then showed up at Nadia’s new apartment. But Nadia wasn’t there because she was visiting friends. For several hours barnevernet were sneaking around the house like the former DDR-Stasi would and stayed until evening to see whether she would come home or not. They also interviewed the housekeeper about her parental skills. They even forced the owner of the house, helped by two policemen, to open Nadia’s apartment for them.

Once again they were violating Nadia’s rights. They didn’t have any legal grounds for these actions against her and what’s even worse they have again completely ruined both Nadia’s and Caspian’s whole new life. Barnevernet has totally destroyed her reputation and trust in the neighborhood and have terrorised her so much that Nadia had to cancel the apartment and Caspian’s place in the kindergarten.

Now, Nadia has to find a new place again to live.

Who is responsible for this never ending nightmare? It is barnevernet in Volda, and its leader Brynhild Solvang. And it is Anne-Beate Vartdal and Eva Andreassen Lynge who forced themselves into Nadia’s home, and it is Mr. Kyrre Grimstad. After this incident he wanted to force Nadia into a meeting but she was wise enough not to go. He left a message saying that barnevernet needs to know where she is, even though her case is closed. He also tried to contact Margaret and Dag Hennum in order to get hold of Nadia and Caspian. It is Mr. Grimstad who is responsible for not letting this mother and child live a normal life.

Shame on him and shame on Norway for not following standard legal procedures and for not respecting Human Rights and for causing so much pain in peoples lives.

Nadia and Caspian’s Fight for Freedom – PART 1

September 4, 2017

Written by Bjorn Korf
Edited by Steven Bennett

Nadia’s first encounter with Norway’s Child Welfare System, barnevernet, was when she was 13 years old. Nadia was forcefully removed from school, separated from her siblings, put into an institution, which sadly didn’t help her but in fact, made her teenage years far worse.

“I have never received any real help from the child welfare system in Norway, they have destroyed my life and we have never met again as a whole family ever since,” says Nadia.

Several years later, in her late twenties, Nadia gave birth to a baby boy called Caspian (Dec 2015). And what Nadia feared most was soon to be realized. Barnevernet approached her again and threatened to take her baby away from her unless she would be willing to submit herself together with Caspian, into a mother’s home.

If you’re not Norwegian you might think that this is a place where mothers and their children are being properly cared for. But many Norwegians and international observers call these places “Horror homes for mothers”. These are the institutions where mothers and their babies are being observed and tested under stressful situations. For example, does the mother have sufficient eye contact with her baby? This is also a place with no privacy because of 24/7 Video surveillance.

Nadia was forced to stay in two of these mother’s homes even though the child welfare’s decision was not based on any legal ground. The people responsible in barnevernet didn’t have the authority from a judge which would have authorized them to put Nadia into such a place.

But sadly, Nadia didn’t know this – she was so afraid of losing her son forever, because of her own experience.

In May 2016, Nadia and Caspian left the mother’s home and found refuge at Margaret and Dag Hennum’s home. Margaret is a pediatric nurse and all her life she has been professionally working with Children. She lovingly observed Nadia and wrote reports which showed that Nadia is a loving and capable mother.

A few weeks later, on June 13th the unimaginable happened: Case workers, along with five policemen stormed the house and in true 1930’s Nazi or former DDR Stasi style, removed little Caspian from his bed where he was sleeping peacefully. And once again there were no legal grounds for this cold and calculated operation.

No court orders were shown, no arrest warrants. The policemen actually admitted to Margaret that they don’t really understand the situation themselves and that they’re only following orders.

The next few weeks Nadia lived in constant fear of permanently losing her son. She had occasional visitation rights and a lawyer started to work on her case.

This particular case caused a lot of awareness on social media and within a short time Nadia and Caspian became well known around the world. It doesn’t happen very often in Norway that Children are returned, when they have been unfairly taken, but with the help of a lawyer and through international pressure, with both prayer and social media activities, Nadia won her case. On 12 Sept 2016, Caspian finally came home to mummy.

In this same month, Nadia participated at the “Save the Children” symposium in Vienna. Check out this Video of Nadia and Margaret sharing details of the case:

(Nadia and Caspian are featured at the very beginning and at approx. the 9 minute mark.)

This may sound like a happy ending, but unfortunately it’s not. Norway’s child welfare never apologized to Nadia and now, a year later, they’re making life very difficult for them again.

Part two continues the story of Nadia and Caspian’s fight for freedom.

For those of you who read many updates here about the story of the young Norwegian Mother, Nadia, who successfully fought the “Child Protection Services” (NCWS) of her own country to rightfully raise her son, these two posts condense the story and explain the continued harassment she receives to this very day. For those who didn’t read the updates, you will find the behavior of a “first world” country described in this report shocking. I have kept up with Nadia’s situation and have thought more than once about asking her if I could write another update. Her case has become very well known. The reports are written by a Christian man who lives in Austria who has worked tirelessly to help publicize stories like Nadia’s. I am grateful that he has allowed me to republish his articles here.

NADIA AND CASPIAN IN VIENNA…UPDATE #17

September 24, 2016

nadia-and-caspian-9-23-2016-4-cropped
Message received September 24th, 2016 @ 11:00 am Vienna time:

“Hi Chris. We did have a wonderful time with AMAZING people yesterday! We are going to church with some of them on Sunday. They have stolen my baby twice, so I will always be afraid they will come after us again. I will live with this anxiety every day until he is 18 years old. All I wish is that Caspian is safe with his mother. I enjoy every day with him but at the same time I’m afraid everyday is going to be the last day we will spend together. I don’t want him sent to kindergarten because I will always be afraid he won’t come home. But in Norway, if we don’t send them to kindergarten Barnevernet gets really worried so, I guess I have to.”

Nadia, Caspian, and Margaret at the Symposium in Vienna

“Children in Barnevernet do not have it good. They become nobody’s children and they are moved around like they are a package. They lose all contact with their family. 😦 It is so sad how they treat children.”

Nadia and the Hennums arrive at the Symposium

“It is important to mention the feelings I’m sitting with after this tragedy. They will never go away.”

“And it was all a mistake. They haven’t even said that they are sorry. My boy and I have been through so much because of them.”
-Nadia Bekkelund

————————–

I was fortunate to receive this message from Nadia today. Because of the content of the message and the pictures Nadia sent, you can see why I have mixed emotions.

It is wonderful to see a smiling mother with her only child. It is difficult to read most of the words Nadia sent.

What a blessing to know that Nadia will be in church with Caspian tomorrow and that she is surrounded by friends! Then there are the doubts and fears that Nadia expresses about her return to Norway.

Nadia makes a general statement about the Barnevernet, one borne out of experience. Then, she states that her bad experience “will never go away.”

It speaks volumes that the Barnevernet has not apologized to Nadia or the Hennum family. What could the reason for this be? Is Norway’s Barnevernet not willing to admit a huge mistake? In this case, it would be the only descent thing to do. Or maybe Norway’s Barnevernet doesn’t think it has made a mistake. This would be a tragedy, indeed. Is what some humble Norwegians have stated true? Is there a feeling of superiority among some Norwegians that allow such events to occur? Except for complete incompetence, the only other alternative that I can think of is that this wasn’t a “mistake.” Is it possible that Caspian was taken on purpose even though the Barnevernet knew there was no good reason? All of these possibilities are, of course, horrible. A more humane, less brutal, family-friendly CPS is needed in Norway.

The symposium that Nadia, Caspian, and Margaret Hennum participated in is at the last post on this blog. It has been edited to include mostly Nadia’s involvement in the symposium. If you start at the 9 minute mark, you will see most of it.

My thoughts: Having just finished watching this, I feel that this was, indeed, an excellent symposium as Professor Marianne H. Skanland has so aptly described in the comments below. It is wonderful to see Christian Austrians doing what they can to help suffering Norwegians. I enjoyed seeing people whom I have never met in person but whom I feel I know. I wish I didn’t have to see them discussing such a topic. However, it is inspiring to see people who will speak out against a cruel and unrelenting system that Norway calls the Barnevernet. Several Norwegians traveled to Vienna for this event. They are names that have been mentioned on this blog. There was the British/Austrian activist, Steven Bennett, who has been so helpful in getting this information out to Europe and the world. Behind the scenes and helping to organize this event was a young Christian man named Bjorn Korf. I wish to thank him and all who participated in this event. May God bless each of you as the valiant attempt is made to dismantle this evil government-sponsored family destroyer.
I respect those who spoke. One would have to be callous to misunderstand the emotion in the voices. These are voices of strength, not of weakness.

There is a Bible verse that states: “You reap what you sow.” I hope the good workers of the Norwegian CPS that do exist and the government entities responsible for actions like those mentioned in this symposium take heed.

Nadia wishes, once again, to thank everyone who has encouraged her during a difficult time. Thank you for your prayers. Nadia is so relieved to have Caspian home.

I am very grateful that we finally have closure to this ordeal. I am thankful to God. I am thankful to all of of those who prayed. I am thankful to anyone who encouraged Nadia along this journey. May God bless all of you! These are the first pictures Nadia has sent me showing Caspian at home. I think it was very nice of Nadia to take a picture of Caspian in front of the Norwegian flag. All of Norway should be happy about this decision. I will probably add more details to this update as time allows.

September 6, 2016

nadia-and-caspian-9-06-2016NADIA AND CASPIAN ARE TO BE REUNITED. The decision has been made at the Fylkesnemnda. Today, Nadia’s lawyer informed her that she has won the case and that Caspian will be coming home. As more details about the case become available, Nadia will release more information.

——————————————-

Nadia is overjoyed as you can imagine. She is so thankful to everyone for their prayers and thoughts. Nadia has already received hundreds of messages from people who have helped her with their prayers and moral support. She will be sharing new pictures of her with her son as soon as she is able.

*

Wow. What can I say? This is such wonderful news. I am thankful to God for the many blessings He gives me each day. To come home from work and hear this news, makes this one of the best days I have had in a long time. I would like to thank everyone who prayed and who supported Nadia in any way. There are so many names of people who have been so supportive of Nadia that I don’t know where to start. If you want to see their names, You can go to her Facebook page to see many of them.

It looks like I will be wrapping up this story soon. I will probably put up some of the details that I learn about the decision or anything else that Nadia want’s me to share here. As time allows, I will share more personal thoughts about this story and about Norway’s Barnevernet. I am still sorting those thoughts out. I am so happy that she can now say, “Finally some fantastic news.”

God’s blessings…

BABY CASPIAN KIDNAPPED IN NORWAY…UPDATE #15

September 3, 2016

Nadia and Caspian 9 02 2016 cropped

It is now over 80 days since Caspian was taken from his mother on June, 13th. Nadia was allowed to see her son on Thursday and Friday. Nadia’s request for the visitation hours she lost last week has not been answered. She has also received no answer on her appeal to have Caspian baptized. Nadia has asked about it several times.

The Barnevernet is, apparently, attempting to get any remaining visitation locations changed. It seems the BV wanted this week’s visits at their offices, but it worked out that Nadia was able to have the visits in the setting with which she and Caspian are familiar.

Nadia has been invited to the Save the Children Conference being held in Vienna, Austria on Friday, September 23rd. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about problems associated with the childcare system in Norway. Those planning to attend include members of the media, representatives of different churches, and involved politicians. Amy Jacobsen, the American mother who had her son Tyler stolen from her by Norway’s Barnevernet, is also planning to be there.

The important decision about Caspian’s future custody should be known within a week or so.

———————————————

Nadia’s thoughts:

“I’m still waiting for answers from the court. Caspian and I had a wonderful time.” (Nadia is referring to this week’s visitations.)

“I don’t know what happens if I win or if I lose. If I lose, will I only see him three times each year? If I win, will Barnevernet give him back or hold him back for me like they do in many cases where parents win?”

“He is getting so big and learning new things all the time, a smart little baby.”

“It (this situation) is not for the best of the child!”

My thoughts:

Eighty days is like years for a baby this age to be away from his mother. Most adults following this incredible story are probably like me; it seems like it’s been ages since Caspian was rudely interrupted from his nap to be removed from the safest place he had ever been.

These updates and pictures speak for themselves. In spite of all that these two have been through, there is a strong connection between Nadia and Caspian. They have been treated like numbers by a machine; there is no humanity in a system where important questions and requests are dealt with in such a haphazard way. A machine would be more predictable.

I have spoken to one of the good men organizing the event in Vienna on September 23rd. I will post all of the information about the event here. The plans include a live broadcast on the internet in English.

I think that Nadia will be taking Caspian with her to the conference in Vienna. At this point, Margaret Hennum, Nadia’s good friend, is also planning on attending the event in Austria. Nadia and Caspian should be reunited soon because of the fact that there is no good evidence that they should continue to be separated.

As information comes in to the Wings of the Wind, I will try and keep readers informed of the latest regarding Nadia’s and Caspian’s case.

I know that all of us need prayer. If you can remember to add Nadia and Caspian to your prayers, it will be appreciated. Nadia is very thankful that so many have prayed for her already.

God’s blessings…

BABY CASPIAN KIDNAPPED IN NORWAY…UPDATE #14

August 26, 2016

Nadia and Caspian 8 26 2016

Nadia is heading home to Brandal after three days of trial at the County Council for Child Welfare and Social Affairs (Fylkesnemnda) in Bergen.
She has been told that she will get an answer about the custody of Caspian in two weeks. While Nadia waits for a verdict in the trial, her lawyer has been told that she will be allowed visitations. Nadia has asked for the four hours of visitation she missed this week in addition to the hours that she is being given before the upcoming decision.

————————

Nadia’s thoughts:

“I have a good feeling about the case,” Nadia said. She wished this update to be published so that people would know what is happening and hopes that people will continue to keep her and Caspian in their thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts:

I’m still learning about Barnevernet procedure. I had not heard from anyone about this two week wait until today. Nadia had mentioned to me a few days ago that she might have to wait a “week or so.”

When any information about the visitations becomes available, I will let you know.

BABY CASPIAN KIDNAPPED IN NORWAY…UPDATE #13

August 20, 2016

Nadia and Caspian 8 19 16

The future of Nadia and Caspian will be determined by the trial that starts on Wednesday (August 24th). The trial, scheduled for a few days, will be held at The County Council for Child Welfare and Social Affairs (Fylkesnemnda) in Bergen.

On Wednesday of this week (August 17th), Nadia received a verdict from the Barnevernet about the 9 1/2 hour hearing on Monday, August 8th.

The verdict states that she is unstable. She is considered unstable because of reactions she had months ago at the Vilde Mother’s Home in Horton. At Vilde, when Nadia found out that another mother was losing her child, Nadia would sometimes cry. This is the reason the verdict gives for Nadia’s instability. The verdict also states that Nadia is forgetful at times. The same verdict states that Nadia is a good mother when she feels safe.

On Thursday, the day after Nadia received this verdict, she had her scheduled visitation with Caspian. The report from the visitation was very good.

After the visitation, the head of the Årstad Barnevernet met with Nadia. She has known Nadia since Nadia was pregnant. She is also the same Barnevernet employee who sent Nadia from the Sudmanske “Home for Mothers” in Bergen to the Vilde “Mother’s Home.” Caspian was just over a month old at that time.

The head of the Arstad Barnevernet told Nadia that, “They want me to see him three times a year.” The reasons the Arstad employee gave for Barnevernet’s wishes that Nadia see Caspian three times a year were the same reasons as those given in the verdict Nadia received on Wednesday.

Nadia had another visitation on Friday and received a very good review for that visitation.

Caspian is being held in a place unknown to his mother. It has been this way since Caspian was taken from Nadia on June 13th, more than two months ago.

Mother and child now wait for the important decision that will be made this week. The decision will determine the future of this family.
—————————————————
Nadia’s thoughts:

First, Nadia would like to thank everyone who has prayed for her, thought of her, and supported her during this very difficult time in her life.

Second, Nadia thinks that the “Barnevernet is trying to scare me! But I will never give up. I miss him so much. The verdict that I received this week along with the “3 days a year” comment on Thursday took an emotional toll on me. But I will never stop fighting.”

My thoughts:

A verdict of some kind was expected on Wednesday the 17th. As far as I can tell, the reasoning in the verdict is additional evidence that there is a great lack of common sense in an organization that makes very important decisions. If Nadia was upset when other mothers were having their children taken from them, it means she has empathy, something that most view as a wonderful trait in a person. The verdict says she is forgetful. Anyone who has read about the observation techniques at the Mother’s Homes would never forget them and Nadia hasn’t. Also, it is obvious that the vast majority of people would be more forgetful than usual when exposed to months of intense scrutiny.

Then, there is this: ” The same verdict states that Nadia is a good mother when she feels safe.” What is Nadia to think of this? Here is a young mother who has had virtually no control over the fate of her child since he was born. When was she supposed to feel “safe?” I know she felt safe at the Hennum home because she told me so. THE ONLY PLACE NADIA HAS FELT SAFE WITH HER SON WAS TAKEN AWAY FROM HER BY THE BARNEVERNET.

I was surprised, and I think Nadia was too, about the meeting with the BV Head after Thursday’s visitation. There had been some mention of a meeting after Friday’s visitation but it has been hard to know when important events will occur in this case. I agree with Nadia that Thursday’s meeting could be very intimidating before her important court case. For anyone to tell Nadia of wishes to give her only 3 visits a year with Caspian less than a week before her trial is very cruel. I will let you decide how bad it is that a Barnevernet Head did this.

I have received information from other sources besides Nadia that state she is a very good mother. I know that Nadia fears Caspian’s future away from her because she believes that no one can love him like she can. How many places has Caspian been moved while away from Nadia and where has her son been? She has no way of knowing. Caspian has given Nadia a purpose in life that she didn’t have before him. The bond has been strong during visitations and 3 visits a year would destroy most of that bond.

An item worth noting is the lack of the term “lopsided development” in the last verdict. This term was used in the first Fylkesnemnda that took place in Molde on June 23rd. Apparently, reports from the Vilde Mother’s Home stated that Caspian may have been a little slow of speech and that it was possible that he might have “nascent lopsided development.” He was never diagnosed with this “lopsided development.” It was thought that he might eventually develop it. At that time, this was a major reason for separating Caspian from Nadia. I have always thought that it is very unjust to separate a child from the one who loves him/her the most because of some event that “might happen” in the future. In any case, Nadia’s lawyer seems to think that this reason is not good enough to be used in a courtroom and I agree with him.

For Nadia to deal with all she has been through this week (and these past months) and still have a good visit with Caspian yesterday speaks volumes about the good mother that she is. She only wants her child to be in the best place. Anyone with common sense and civility knows where that is. It is always best for the biological mother to have a chance to raise their own child. In Nadia’s case, I see no reason why she should not be given that chance and can’t imagine any court having a different opinion. Please pray for a good decision in Nadia and Caspian’s case.

This week Nadia said, “I only wish the Best for my baby.” The more I have learned about this case the more I think the best thing by a huge degree would be the reunification of this mother with her child.
