One can’t be too careful these days.
The following statement is made with this scripture from 2 Peter in mind:
It is almost six years since I have published this post. In that time, it has been the most viewed post on this blog. I tried to research a bit about Mr. Ryle at the time and found nothing bad. As the message was good, I put it up never guessing it would be as popular as it is.
Today, I have found a critique of Mr. Ryle. It states that James Ryle connects himself to the “Manifest Sons of God.” Below is a description of that group. Since it is a group that teaches false teachings I will have to remove this post. I will wait until July 4th, 2016 before removing the post so that anyone who wants to prove this allegation incorrect has the opportunity to do so. If I get no evidence to the contrary, the post comes down. I don’t care how popular it has been, if the author believes what is described below, it does not have a place on this blog.

The teaching that in the last days, a “new breed” of Christians will arise – the “Manifest Sons of God” – who will have super-natural spiritual power and be instrumental in subduing the earth. This movement is also referred to as “Joel’s Army.”
‘Subduing the earth’ means that a militant church (Joel’s Army) will arise, take over and rule the world politically and spiritually.
It is claimed that the ‘Manifest Sons of God’ will be perfected into their “glorified bodies” prior to Christ’s return. That perfection will allow them to subdue the earth for Jesus. Proponents of this doctrine also claim Christians, having a “divine nature,” become “gods.” They say Christ came into us as a “seed” and grows into a “prophet.” Thus Christ does not physically return, but returns within us. The rapture, according to this doctrine, will be of the wicked – not of believers.

This teaching is part of what is known as ‘dominion theology’ which teaches that an elite army of ‘overcomers’ will either destroy or subdue all the enemies of Christ until they eventually gain power and authority throughout the world. The government of the nations will be upon their shoulders and when all the secular authorities, governments, princes and kings have finally submitted to them, Christ will return and they will present the kingdom to him.

The doctrine also includes the idea that Jesus was sent as a “pattern” for the corporate church (Corporate church in this context means that the church becomes Christ. Christ is considered not complete without us because he is the head and we are the body).
The current church, according this this view, has the “spirit of the anti-Christ.”
This teaching is akin to gnosticism
This teaching is promoted in some of today’s controversial Renewal and Revival Movements (e.g. by Paul Cain).

The Bible and Hollywood
May 26, 2016I firmly believe that the Bible was not intended to ‘entertain’ the Christian consumer, much less the lost millions who need a Savior from their sin. Nevertheless, Hollywood has discovered that there are untapped millions of dollars that are ripe for the taking from an all too willing ‘Christian’ audience eager and conditioned to think that God is all about satisfying our desires and temporal cravings.
There was probably a time when this was not the case, a time when going to church meant entering the house of a great big God who rightly deserves honor, worship, awe, respect, and fear. We sang God honoring hymns full of rich theology that spoke of what a mighty and merciful God had done on behalf of spiritually dead sinners. But I digress.
